Elfman

Origin

Elfman is the brother of Mirajane and Lisanna and the three of them grew up in the Fairy Tail Guild. As children, Mirajane was a rough and mean girl, Lisanna was caring and concerned, while Elfman was shy and weak, with his only real talent being for cooking. This caring nature of his came in useful though as he helped Natsu look after Happy's egg before it hatched.

Elfman remembers the death of his sister.

Both Mirajane and Lisanna had the magical powers to take over creatures and fully transform their bodies to mimic their powers, however Elfman was the only one of them who couldn't fully transform his body, only able to transform one arm of his into the arms of creatures he had defeated. He was always ashamed of this, feeling that if he was really a man then he should be able to pull off a full body transformation. However, when he finally did achieve this, it backfired and he lost complete control and his sister Lisanna was "killed" in the process. After this Mirajane and Elfman permanently changed. Mirajane became kind and caring and Elfman became the epitome of manliness, constantly going on about what it meant to be "manly."

Elfman: I will be a man from now on.

In the filler episode 71, Elfman has a flashback about how he regrets Lisanna's death. He was standing in front of her grave with Natsu, and he was saying that it wouldn't have happened if he had taken Natsu along on the mission. Yet, Natsu, with tears in his eyes, tells him not to mope around so much. Especially in sad times, one must smile, because that is what it means to be a man. That's what Lisanna must have done.

Years later Elfman makes his first appearance in the series when a fight is breaking out between Natsu and Gray, and he interrupts to tell them that real men settle their fights with their fist. He then helps to start a big brawl in the guild, showing how far he has come from the shy child he once was.

Creation

Elfman was created by Hiro Mashima to be one of the many mages of Fairy Tail. More importantly, he was created along with his sister Mirajane to showcase the magic of "Take Over" which allows them to transform into any creature or person in some cases. He made his debut in Chapter 2 of the manga and Episode 2 of the anime. He is voiced by Hiroki Yasumoto in the Japanese version andis voiced by Christopher Sabat in the English version.

Major Story Arcs

Phantom Lord Arc

Elfman is the first to take on Gajeel.

The first time that Elfman really gets the chance to show off his powers in the series was when Phantom Lord assaulted Fairy Tail and destroyed the guild. Elfman along with several other members of the guild retaliated against Phantom Lord and stormed their guild. Elfman showed off his powers for the first time here in the series, and he was also the first person to fight Gajeel, although his battle was interrupted by Natsu wanting to take on Gajeel himself.

Later when Phantom Lord's mobile guild starts attacking Fairy Tail and threatening to destroy it, Elfman and his friends invade the mobile guild in the hopes of stopping it from within. Meanwhile on the outside Phantom Lord demands that Fairy Tail hands over Lucy, and Elfman's sister Mirajane won't let that happen, so she uses her powers of transformation to fool them into thinking that she is Lucy. However they don't fall for it but they take her hostage as well anyways.

Sol realizes he pushed Elfman a tad too far.

Inside the guild Elfman runs into one of the Elemental 4, the most dangerous team in Phantom Lord. His opponent is Sol, the master of earth and ground based magic. Elfman is being defeated by Sol's bizarre magic, but when he hears that his sister has been kidnapped he realizes he has to once again attempt a full body Take Over. He is able to successfully pull it off and transforms his entire body into a monster and defeats Sol soundly. He eventually reaches Mirajane and frees her and apologizes to her for taking on the form once again that killed their sister. Mirajane tells him it is alright and puts his fears to rest. They head off to confront Jose, Phantom Lord's master, and stop their guild and its powerful cannon that is being aimed at Fairy Tail. They are quickly defeated by his overwhelming power, but are rescued when Master Makarov shows up to save the day.

Fighting Festival Arc

Elfman fights Evergreen blindfolded to avoid her deadly gaze.

During the Harvest Festival, Laxus decided it was time for him to make his move to take over Fairy Tail, so he and his team arranged to take it over during the Miss Fairy Tail Pageant, which Mirajane was a contestant in. Evergreen used her powers to turn all the contestants to stone, and Laxus declared that all the members of the guild now had to fight against one another and the captives would not be freed until there was only one member left standing. In order to save his sister Elfman chased down Evergreen and attempted to fight her, however knowing that her stare could turn people into stone, he was at a great disadvantage. He blindfolded himself to try and defeat her without looking at her, but it was impossible to hit her like this. Eventually she got his blindfold off and turned him to stone as well.

However, eventually Erza was freed and she was able to defeat Evergreen, which set all the contestants and Elfman free of their stony prisons. Mirajane came to help Elfman, as he was now too weak to walk on his own. They headed to safety but had the misfortune of running into Fried, the mage who's containment spells had been forcing the members of Fairy Tail to fight and had locked the entire city in a prison of his creation. Fried attacked Elfman, revealing he had the power to not only create cages around people with certain rules and effects, but he could create these cages in a person's body as well. He used the trap of "Pain" on Elfman's body, making it so every time he moved he experienced pain like he had never felt in his life. Next he was exposed to the trap of "Fear" which wrecked his mind. He was about to use the spell of "Death" on him to finish him, but Mirajane couldn't take it, and she summoned out her demonic powers from years ago to defeat Fried.

Edolas arc

He goes to church along with his sister Mirajane for Liassana' s death anniversity.He is unknowingly sucked in Anima, but later was releases to the his world.He and Mirajane are later seen at Liassan' s grave, while Liassana comes to them from nowhere which could not believe their eyes.

Take Over Magic: Beast Soul

Elfmans' Full Body Beast Soul Take Over.

Elfman is one of the strongest members of Fairy Tail and like his two sisters, uses Take Over Magic. However, unlike Mirajane and Lisanna who use demon and animal soul take overs respectively, Elfman's full body transformations take the form of a beast, known as Beast Soul Take Over.

Beast Soul Transformations	Description
Beast Arm: Black Bull	Elfman transforms his hand into that of a black bull which gives his punches extra strength.
Beast Arm: Iron Bull	Elfman transforms his arm into a large iron bull fist which increases his punches' power.
Beast Arm: Jet Black Sword	After being punctured by Rusty Rose's transformed arm, Elfman acquired the ability to transform his arm into a form similar to Rusty Rose's.
