Edmond

Origin

Edmond grew up on Sweet Sweet and left the planet fifty years prior to the start of the series to become a space warrior.

Creation

Edmond is a character in the Galaxy Express 999 series, which was created by Leiji Matsumoto, who is popular for the Captain Harlock franchise and its related series. He makes his first appearance in Episode #32 "The Bitten Planet of Suspended Space". In the anime series, his design and creation are credited to Shingo Araki and Shigeru Kogawa respectively.

Major Story Arc

The Bitten Planet of Suspended Space

Edmond meets Maetel and Tetsuro in the dining car of the GE999 and joins them for dinner. While eating, he tells them of his childhood on Sweet Sweet and that he is excited to finally return to the planet after being away for over fifty years. When the GE999 reaches Sweet Sweet, Edmond is heartbroken to see it battered and teetering on the edge of destruction due to the government siphoning its greatest natural resources off and selling them to the highest bidder. Edmond vows revenge and confronts the officials in charge but is defeated and captured. Maetel and Tetsuro rescue him and Edmond vows to find a new planet to call his home.
