Akira Takizawa wakes up in Washington D.C. with no memory of his former life and naked. He has a special phone and 8.2 billion yen that he can use to order almost whatever he wants. What is Akira's origin, and how did he get this phone?
On November 22, 2010 ten missiles strike against uninhabited areas of Japan, claiming no victims. This apparent terrorist act is referred to as "Careless Monday" and disregarded by most people. The series begins three months after Careless Monday. A young Japanese girl named Saki Morimi is visiting Washington D.C. for her graduation trip. Saki gets into trouble for throwing rocks over the fence at the White House. A naked Japanese man, who introduces himself as Akira Takizawa, saves her from the police.
Akira appears to have no memory of his past and is completely naked, carrying only a gun and a cell phone charged with 8.2 billion yen in digital money. The cell phone has the phrase, noblesse oblige ("nobility obligates" or "noble's obligation" in English), printed on it. Also judging by the roman numerals at the top of the phone's screen, it seems that Akira isn't the only one with such a phone. Akira soon works out that he can use the phone to call a female operator going by the name of "Juiz" and tells Juiz to do whatever he wants, and make anything happen. Juiz then takes and uses money attached to the phone to complete Akira's request.
While Akira and Saki are on their way back to Japan, they learn that a new missile attack has taken place in their country. The series follows Akira and Saki, as they both find out more about Akira's past, his special phone, why he has so much money, what he is going to do with it and what it means for the rest of Japan.
The title of the series, "Eden of The East", is the name of a phone application developed by Saki and her friends. It is an image recognition, search engine and social networking tool. An image can be uploaded, processed, and information can be given for it. For example, if you submit a picture of a person, it will come up with all sorts of information on the person. Needless to say, finding out Akira's real identity and history is not as simple as entering his picture into the search engine.
