Manga Origins

In the mid-'60s Takao Saito had worked on translating the stories of James Bond from which he would get the inspiration for Golgo 13. In 1969 the very fist chapter of Golgo 13 was published, and since then Golgo 13 has been ongoing

Associated Works

Since his inception Golgo 13 has appeared in a variety of different media over the years. There were 2 live action movies produced in the 1970's the first being simply titled Golgo 13 (which starred Ken Takakura as Golgo 13) and the second being a Hong Kong action movie entitled Golgo 13: Assignment Kowloon (which starred Sonny Chiba). There were 2 OVAs produced later on. The first one, released in 1983, being titled simply as Golgo 13 in Japan while in the US it was called The Professional: Golgo 13. It is infamous for its use of an early example of CG that being a poorly looking helicopter. The second OVA, Golgo 13: Queen Bee was released in 1998. There have been a handful of Golgo 13 video games over the years ranging from a series of light gun arcade games to a pair of action games on NES to a DS adventure game and a pair of interactive movies on the Playstation. In 2008 a 50 episode TV anime was aired in Japan.

Code of Conduct

Despite working for anyone who will pay his fee of 1 million dollars, Golgo 13 follows a set of rules that he strictly adheres to. First of all, he will not meet with a client more than once and only in person. Second, he will not accept any job other than assassination (i.e. recovery of an object). Third, he eliminates anyone who witnesses his work or that betray him regardless of reason. Fourth, he will not take more than one contract for the same target and will only accept the first contract.

Skills

Being an assassin he is a master of infiltration and elimination. Since his profession requires that he be able to eliminate his target in the most efficient manner he has access to a wide information network from which his able to carefully plan his operations. Most notably is his skill with a Gun. His weapons of choice are a S&W .38 revolver for close encounters and a modified M-16 Assault Rifle for longer range engagements. Although he will often use whatever weapon best satisfies the will of his client's request. He is also well known for his ability satisfy women. He is often seen having sex with women before a mission. He has been described as using sex as a means of clearing his mind so he can complete his contracts better. His exception skill and intellect allow him to find means of entering buildings and facilities that allow him to remain inconspicuous even in places where he would stand out.

Nationality

Although it is commonly believed that he is Japanese or at least of Japanese decent it is never officially or concretely stated what his nation or ancestry is. Characters will occasionally refer to him being Asian or Japanese and he occasionally uses Asian names as aliases, but he also has used Arabic and Spanish names as aliases.
