Alternate Reality

An alternate reality is a universe that is different from the main world of a series. This world can be different in just small ways and it will still resemble the main reality, or it can be completely different and not be similar at all to the universe the protagonist had known.

Amnesia

Mental condition of when someone forgets almost all of his or her past, including his/her identity. Some anime characters have such an allingment.

Arranged Marriage

A marriage that is arraigned through a meeting and interview process or between families. Many times, the participants may have never even met one another.

Bad Ass Fight Scene

A fight scene or epic battle that stands above the norm of what the series offers and goes down in history as one of the best combat encounters in the series. The perfect combination of epicness and animation.

Bathing Scene

Bathing Scenes, while occasionally meaningful to plot or character development, are generally excuses for fan service.

Betrayal

Betrayal is the act of treachery or a violation of a trust or allegiance. This can be to one's friends, country, or God.

Birthday

A anniversary of the day on which a person was born (or the celebration of it).

Breaker

A breaker is a human with the ability to activate a Lost Precious. They are ranked in levels that max out at 10, with each being increasingly powerful and increasingly rare.

Curse

A long-lasting spell that causes negative results to the cursed one and sometimes those around him/her.

Cursed Precious

A dangerous type of Lost Precious.

Dances And Balls

Dark Past

One or more past events that negatively affected one or more people. It's very common in an anime for at least one person to have such a past.

Delinquents

One who disobeys or breaks rules or laws, often used to describe younger individuals such as high schoolers who cause trouble.

Destiny

The belief of predetermined events.

Dragons

A legendary creature that is typically reptilian, that can fly and can breathe fire and sometimes ice.

Enemy Love Interest

The protagonist's love interest is either a member of the enemy faction or the main antagonist of the series.

Fan Service

Fang is an organization that deals in the acquisition and trade of Lost Preciouses. Their methods and tendencies are less than ethical to say the least.

Flashback

Used frequently in Anime to either recap past events or provide a back story for a character, either their origin story or their off-screen training of new attack. Sometime and entire episode/chapter would be a entire flashback.

Frenemy

When someone is friends with a person who for one reason or another they are forced to also be enemies with.

From Strangers to Roomies

The concept of strangers who eventually become roommates.

Good

The actions that cause or were intended to bring more prosperity to others.

Heterochromia

Characters with two different eye colors.

Humans

Humans are typically depicted as the dominant species of the planet Earth, and sometimes of other planets. Humans often mirror their real life counterparts in terms of abilities and intellect, while other times they can achieve superhuman feats.

Jealousy

A feeling of jealous envy (especially of a rival).

Kidnapping

Capturing and carrying away a person against their will and holding them in false imprisonment .

Lost Precious

Lost Preciouses are valuable items that are no longer possessed by their original owner. They cover a wide range of items from jewelry to magical swords.

Matchmaker

A matchmaker is a person who tries to create a romantic relationship between two characters.

Modesty Towel

A towel usually worn after bathing or showering to cover up. Sometimes used as censorship even during bathing.

Moe

Moe (pronounce moh-eh) is a Japanese slang term for something one likes, and within the anime realm is used to refer to characters who inspire a protective sort of love-- usually because the characters seem to need someone to take care of them.

Orphan

A child without parents.

Possession

The act of controling an individual, making him preform actions at your will.

Potential Love Interest

The character has a chance of ending up with the protagonist. It means either the protagonist or the heroine(or maybe both) have feelings for the other.

Pwnage

Pwnage isn't just losing a fight. These are situations where one opponent significantly outclasses the other to the point of embarrassment.

Revenge

When someone returns an cruel favor to another after what has been done to them or an loved one.

Robot

An electro-mechanical machine which is guided by computer or electronic programming, and is thus able to do tasks on its own.

Science!

Sometimes the pursuit of scientific knowledge goes far beyond what is accepted in polite society. When normal Science can't get the job done, we turn to "Science!" and the perverse minds that practice it.

Servant

A person who obeys the orders of a superior due to payment, free will etc. Is valued more than a slave.

Seven Tails is a newly founded company that specializes in recovering "Lost Preciouses".

When one character has trouble expressing themselves and is very reserved. Usually used in Anime as an endearing quality.

Simultaneous Release

When anime or manga is broadcast or published -- usually on the internet -- in countries outside of Japan around the same time as it airs/releases in Japan, usually within one week or even 24 hours.

Students

A Student is one who is enrolled or attends classes at a school, college, or university. A popular theme among many manga and animes.

The Society

The Society is a human run organization that does research into Lost Preciouses, with a special interest in Dragons.

Thieves & Con Artists

Thieves and con artists are people who take objects of value from others by theft or trickery.

Tropes And Transformations

A stylistic device used in several animes.

Unreal Hair/Eye Color

A popular design choice for characters in anime is to give them natural hair and/or eye colors that do not occur in real nature.

Unrequited love

A passion or romance for a person where these feelings are not returned by the object of affection. A one-sided love.
