Just saw a commerical saying that all 9 season DVD sets of DBZ are now cheap (kind like how I found the first 2 DVD sets of Inuyasha at my bookstore one time). Does this mean it will be no longer being in publish... until they come out with some Classic Special Edition or something?
DVD Sales
Doubtful. Navarre (previous owners of Funimation)'s annual report stated that one franchise made up either 40% or 60% of their entire sales for a year. When I look at their line-up, Dragon Ball and DBZ are the only ones that make sense to be that franchise. I can't see them ever giving up a series like that. It'd instantly devastate their income.
A few months ago they got streaming and digital download rights (Zune, Itunes, etc)
DBZ is also getting a blu-ray release, even though the Dragon Boxes offer the best picture quality possible. Plus if you want a blu-ray release you're better off getting Kai.
Funimation will always find ways to make money off of the Dragon Ball franchise.
They need it to stay alive, plus cover their loses on titles that don't sell well (e.g. Big Windup)
