I think DBZ was great, but that was when I was back as a kid. Now it's lost all it's flair and I just get annoyed by how long everything is dragged out. I do plan on trying kai, but I need the dub before I do.

  Because it is too unclear how strong, fast and powerful DBZ characters are
 
Strength: It is possible, and quite logical that they should be able to lift millions, if not billions of tons, however they never lifted anything heavier then 40T (on a planet with unknown gravity)
 
Speed: It is even possible that they have reached light speed at the beginning of DBZ (Goku moving as fast as lighting while he was kid, raditz dodging attack that was called light of death, and we have also seen that Piccolos blast can reach moon in matter of seconds), but still there is no solid enough evidence  that they ever reached light speed, not even at the end of DBZ.
 
blasting power: Master roshi and piccolo destroyed the moon, one had Pl 139 and the other between 500-2000. after that there is no single solid feat from which we could see how powerful they are. Sure, Vegeta (PL18 000) stated he can destroy the planet, Frieza stated how he effortlessly destroyed a planet Vegeta (with 10x bigger gravity then earth, which most likely means it has much bigger mass then earth) in his weakest form (PL 530 000) , Cell stated he can destroy whole solar system, but those are all statements not feats.
 between saiyan saga and kid buu saga, they have stated over 20 times how they can destroy the earth, but only kid buu actually destroyed it. 

The only thing i hate about DBZ is the Fluctuations of their power, and the fact that they Rarely Back their statements up with feats. If they Showed Cell destroying Solar systems, Or Goku Moving FTL, i would definitely enjoy the series more.

This has pretty much been killing my enjoyment of participating in the Battles forum as of late. Even with the restrictions on particular matches, it hasn't stopped DBZ fanboys from exaggerating about the feats of the characters and not getting there's enough inconsistencies and hyperbole to be found in the series.

My problem with DBZ was that it just kept dragging on and on having a bad enough habit of making a big deal out of anything when either the claims aren't backed up or events in the series keep getting changed for the sheer convenience of plot. Make a big deal out of Goku being the first in many millenniums to be a SSJ, the major Saiyan characters are capable of becoming SSJ by the Cell saga. Frieza brags that Namek blows up in 5 minutes, it takes nearly a dozen episodes for this to happen. Goku dies on Namek with no way off the planet, Toriyama makes a weak excuse saying Goku got in a space pod when it was clearly shown he was left with no way off the planet after escaping Frieza's spaceship falling into a ravine of lava. I could go on and on over the many things DBZ makes a big deal of and just doesn't deliver or screws up continuity with its plot.

With Dragon Ball running for so long and the need to always have the next foe be more powerful than the previous one.. the scale of things got more than a little ridiculous in my opinion. I won't argue that most if not all long-running shows get into this cycle, but DBZ does it bigger than most.
 Another problem with being so long, is that I found the tropes of the shonen action series to really start grating after a while, in a way I might not have in a shorter story.  Maybe I just don't like the genre enough.
 
Oh! Plus, all the hipster anime fans out there hate anything mainstream.
