Most anime fans hardcore or not know Akira Toriyama's famous Dragon Ball Z series which had a massive impact on the United States and Japan as well. This is one of the best anime I have ever watched despite the level of inconsistency included and some of the filler arcs. Dragon Ball Z is filled with intense action in its epic battle scenes however its not all about fighting as it also includes some very funny moments. Dragon Ball Z gives a greater explanation on Goku's superhuman abilities as during Dragon Ball it was not known that he was from the battle loving alien race The Saiyans. I did not particularly enjoy Raditz's introduction as he was an awesomely lame character in my opinion although I did enjoy that because of the threat that Raditz posed at the time it forced Goku to join forces with his nemesis and future friend and Z Fighter Piccolo. It was interesting to witness Kid Gohan's hidden potential when he rammed into Raditz's chest clearly harming him which was something both Piccolo and Goku were failing to do back then. I personally wished that minor characters such as Yamcha were give more of the spotlight since he was quite interesting and his character was not allowed to completely develop in my opinion at least.

Vegeta's introduction was intense and epic seeing Goku fight Vegeta during their first encounter was fun and suspenseful. Goku's soon to be rival Vegeta would come to become one of my favorite characters in the series. Something that I noticed in Dragon Ball Z was during Goku's battle against Frieza. During the final hours of his battle against Frieza on Namek I enjoyed watching Frieza face the fact that Goku is his worst fear: A Super Saiyan and the insane expression on his face during certain scenes clearly showed how the lower class warrior (Goku) pushed the all mighty galactic overlord (Frieza) to his very limit. Although I had no qualm against DBZ ending in the Frieza Saga I was happy that Akira Toriyama decided to continue the series due to fan requests although ending the show during the Frieza Saga would have been excellent.

One thing in particular I enjoyed was Piccolo's power increase during the Android Saga. I was worrying that he was falling behind the main cast although within the blink of an eye he was dominating Android 17 clearly surpassing Super Saiyan level power. The Cell Saga was also quite epic. While introducing Perfect Cell who was very different from the other villains was a great move I didn't enjoy how his character turned out to be later on. I enjoyed that at first Cell didn't seem particularly evil and only wished to test his powers however when he was humiliated by the badass that is Teen Super Saiyan 2 Gohan he went over the edge causing him to lose the cool and calm persona I enjoyed in him. The Cell Saga was amazing having a good story and explosive battle scenes. I enjoyed that the animation had been improved since the Frieza Saga and most of all it was great watching Gohan unleash his full potential and turn into a Super Saiyan 2. Cell's defeat was nothing more than awesome and again it would have been a perfect ending.

I can't say the same thing about the Majin Buu Saga. I didn't like the Saga all together, I thought the main villain (Buu) was too "been there done that" in my opinion although there were certain aspects of the Saga that I liked. I like how all of the past villains watched the battle between Goku and Kid Buu via crystal ball and Frieza stating that it was typical that Goku had defeated Kid Buu. I also enjoyed the introduction of the Vegito fusion and his cocky style of fighting although it got annoying after some time. I did not like the level of inconsistency in the Saga. Gohan's true potential was released by Elder Kai and he became Mystic Gohan but if I recall correctly Gohan's true potential was released back on Namek during the Frieza Saga so I don't see how this made any sense. I liked the introduction of the Super Saiyan 3 form and for a moment there I was hoping that only Goku would achieve it which I was hoping for however I was somewhat disappointed when Gotenks turned into a Super Saiyan 3 making the form lose its value in my perspective at least.

All in all this is one of the greatest anime shows I've ever watched and I would give it a 4.5/5.
