Dragon Ball Z is the second and most popular of the three anime series in the Dragon Ball franchise.
Dragon Ball Z is the second anime adaptation of the Dragon Ball manga created by Akira Toriyama.
On the day of a five-year reunion with his friends at Kame House, Goku is faced with the unexpected arrival of an alien from another world named Raditz claiming to be his brother. When Goku refuses to cooperate with Raditz’s plans to destroy all of humanity on Earth, Raditz kidnaps Goku’s son, Gohan, and tells Goku to kill off one hundred humans. Faced with little choice, Goku teams up with his old enemy Piccolo in order to defeat Raditz. Even after Raditz is defeated, Goku, Piccolo, and Earth’s other warriors are faced with the task of having to defend the world from other alien forces.
Major characters are listed below. See the full character list for all characters in this series.
The Z Fighters are a group of Earth's strongest warriors who defend the planet from enemy threats.
| Goku (孫 悟空 Son Gokū) Voiced by: Masako Nozawa Sean SchemmelRace: Saiyan Gender: Male | |
| The main protagonist. A Saiyan raised on Earth, Goku is the worlds mightiest hero. Having previously defeated Piccolo in the 23rd World Martial Arts Tournament, Goku has grown into an adult with his wife Chi Chi, and the couple have had a son together named Gohan, after Goku's adoptive grandfather, and later a second son named Goten. Goku is generally considered the most powerful of the Z Fighters and saves the Earth many times. He is a genius martial artist with a pure heart, making him an ideal hero, though his lack of education and common sense arguably makes him less of an ideal role model. | |
| Piccolo (ピッコロ Pikkoro) Voiced by: Toshio Furukawa Chris SabatRace: Namekian Gender: Other | |
| Piccolo is the spawn of King Piccolo (Kami's evil counterpart) technically making him both King Piccolo's son and reincarnation. Originally Goku's arch-nemesis, he puts his differences with him aside to team up and defeat a mutual threat, Raditz, and while training Gohan to defend the Earth against following Saiyan threats Piccolo begins to care for others and eventually joins the good side permanently. Piccolo is one of the most powerful Z Fighters, as well as one of the most intelligent. |
| Raditz (ラディッツ Radittsu) Voiced by: Shigeru Chiba Justin CookRace: Saiyan Gender: Male | |
| Goku's older brother, Raditz is one of the remaining Saiyans alive after the destruction of their home world. He comes to Earth to retrieve his younger brother who was originally sent to destroy all life on the planet, only to find instead that Kakarott, known as Goku on Earth, had forgotten his mission and instead made friends with the natives, living as one of them. |
