Say WHAT? Now I have to figure out if I have NICKTOONS on my television? Geh!

Yes, word is that Dragon Ball Z Kai, the remastered, re-recorded, enhanced version of DBZ with all the filler removed so you can actually tell what the heck the plot is, is going to air on Nicktoons in the US, starting this May.

)To ensure that the station doesn't look like it's a passing fancy to get this weird Japanese stuff, they are also airing a show called Voltorn Panthera Force, although it's unclear if this series will actually be animated in Japan or not.)
This is certainly a great deal for FUNimation, who now has access to an entire generation of kids who haven't bought Dragon Ball Z six times yet! (I'd bet good money that at some point they'll sell the original uncut series in a box set as "see the authentic Dragon Ball Z as it was originally aired in Japan!")

Wow. So a while ago Disney XD picked up Naruto, and now Nickelodeon is getting in on the anime action? And with DBZ Kai? What a strange idea: we might get a new generation of anime fans, based on a nearly 25-year-old show.

I think it's kinda cool. What about you?

Is Nicktoons separate spin-off channel from Nickelodeon, like Disney XD is for The Disney Channel? If so, I won't be watching it. I guess it's cheaper for companies to get anime on these expanded cable networks, but the audience availability is obviously going to be lower. By how much, I don't really know. Not that I care for Naruto Shippuden, but I don't have Disney XD either.
I shouldn't be surprised Cartoon Network passed this up, but I still kind of am. It's just moved so far from a network I care about, aside from the occasional Cartoon Cartoons rerun. And I can understand Syfy not going for it, still being a long series even with the cuts and aiming for a slightly younger audience.

I originally thought this would go onto Cartoon Network/Adult-Swim. This came as a surprise to me.

there needs to be a standard "Anime Channel"!!
Screw all that seperation of shows!!

@Niko: Yup, Nicktoons is separate. And I don't get it. BOOOOO. :(
@Oneeyedjacks: Me too, to be honest I figured it might be one of Adult Swim's upcoming anime reveals. Guess not!
@AtomoPanda: FUNimation has been trying to do that for aaaages, but they haven't managed to catch on with all the cable providers :\

When Dragonball Z first aired on Cartoon Network back in 1999, it was an 'expanded cable' channel that not all subscribers got -- and Warner punted it to CN after airing it for two years in the Kids WB block.  It was cancelled from the WB because of low ratings.
Nicktoons is part of a major brand and is 'mainstream' -- so even if you don't personally have it on your cable system or subscriber package:  yes, new fans are going to be turned onto anime.

It's really goofy, but at least it will be on some TV channel.  Better then nothing right?

I honestly didn't know people actually still watched real TV. I havent sat down and watched TV proper in years. I cant stand all the frigging commercials every four to five minutes cutting into the show. You just get interested in whats going on and then bam! You get a two minute commercial that ruins any kind of emotional buildup the show you where watching had. Not to mention all of those dam pop ups that keep flashing up and covering half the screen for most of the show. Nothings worse then trying to watch some dramatic speech about something only to have half the screen have some guys face on it with stars and flashy things going off all around it telling you to tune in to watch some amazing show that's coming on some time soon!

I guess it's safe to assume that everything will be censored.... again.

@darkcyder: You know, that's actually a really good question. I'll see if I can't get an answer.

If I had to choose between Nicktoons and Disney XD, I’m happy that Funimation went to Nicktoons since they don’t seem to have “as many” censorship issues as a network associated directly with Disney.

With that said…

Seriously!!! I understood why you let go of a lot of the Funimation properties since they were starting their own network and all. I personally believe that if you had moved those properties uncensored and first run to Adult Swim, you woulda been able to keep the rating at a decent level… filler withstanding.

Naruto leaving Cartoon Network was a BIG mistake for both parties and eventually the censorship issues associated with them being on Disney XD will stop them from showing certain episodes, let alone all the scenes they’ve already cut out. Eventually this will cause rating to go down and leave the public without possible all 3 of the BIG three not being broadcast in America.

Why the long face? If you had to watch DBZ, I hear Kai is leaps and bounds above (and more efficient) a watching package.

Yes, I agree with everything you stated.

Yes. I can only wonder how much of the "untouched" series we will see.
