Don Quixote Doflamingo is the leader of the Don Quixote Family and king of Dressrosa. He rules an underground organization under his alias, Joker.
Much of Doflamingo past is unknown, but he was seen to be present at the public execution of Gold Roger when he was seventeen years old. He would go on to create a dangerous reputation for himself, but he doesn't believe in the ideal of dreams.
As a dangerous and famous pirate, Doflamingo was invited by the World Government to join the Seven Warlords. He prophetically speaks of the inevitable dawn of a "new era,' believing that it will be a time where only strength will prevail. His prestige has made lesser pirates, such as Bellamy the Hyena, serve under him to uphold his belief of this "new era." He rules a secret underground of illegal dealings under the name "Joker". Among those are the slave trade auctions at Sabaody Archipelago.
Don Quixote Doflamingo is an antagonist in the One Piece series that was created by Eiichiro Oda. The series first began serialization in Shueisha's Weekly Shōnen Jump on August 4, 1997. He first appeared during the Jaya Arc that began in Volume 24.
His first appearance was in One Piece Volume 25 CH. 233 "The Highest Authority in the World", and his first anime appearance was in One Piece - Episode 151 "100 Million Man! World’s Greatest Power and Pirate Black Beard!". His was initially voiced in the Japanese series by Masaya Takatsuka in Episode 151, but from Episode 207 and is voiced by Hideyuki Tanaka. The U.S. dub produced by FUNimation is performed by Robert McCollum.
Doflamingo was summoned to Marie Jois by Fleet-Admiral Sengoku to discuss the matter of one the defeated one of of the other Warlords, Sir Crocodile. He amused himself by controlling one of the ranking Marine commanders in the room to fight the other until the Fleet-Admiral arrived. The meeting was interrupted by the appearance of Lafitte, a member of the Blackbeard Pirates.
When Doflamingo heard that one of his underlings Bellamy was defeated and humiliated by Straw Hat Luffy while using his mark. He went to the island of Jaya and forced Bellamy to fight to the death with his own first mate Sarquiss, as he plead for forgiveness.
Doflamingo was called by his underling Disco, who ran the slave auctions on Sabaody Archipelago. The Auction House was under attack, and Disco was begging for help. Doflamingo refused since he called slavery old news.
When the execution of Portgas D. Ace is announced, Doflamingo is summoned to Marineford with all the current Warlords to help fight against the Whitebeard Pirates. He happily attends the execution if only to witness the beginning of a new era with his own eyes. He cut off the legs of the giant Oars Jr., then controlled the body of the Whitebeard Pirates' commander, Jozu, like a puppet to fight Crocodile. After the war was over, Doflamingo was given orders from the high command to kill the Warlord, Gecko Moria; and make it look like he was a war casualty. Though near death, Moria managed to managed to escape with his Shadow-Shadow powers.
One of the government officials tried to scold Doflamingo for not confirming the death of Gecko Moria, but he threatened to kill the official and leave the Warlords.
The mad genius Caesar Clown was working for Doflamingo to develop weapons to sell in the black market, but he didn't trusts the scientist. He sent Monet, a member of his crew, to work under cover as a spy. He was at his home base in Dressrosa when Vergo, a spy he placed in the Marines, called to tell him that Trafalgar Law, a former crew member, had openly betrayed them and was going after the S.A.D. weapon. Doflamingo ignored the attacks from Baby 5 while he talked to Vergo, ordered him to kill Law, and said he was sending reinforcements.
While the nature of Doflamingo's powers are widely unknown it is assumed that he has eaten a Devil Fruit. He can manipulate the bodies of others to his will and make precision cutting with an unseen force.
