The lack of a sense or physical ability. Blindness, Paralysis, or the loss of a limb are examples. Though in many cases these cease being shortcomings over time, and are not just overcome, but often the character becomes stronger.

In anime, disability can rob the characters of their use of their limbs or mental ability. Disability can change their lives forever. Even if disability limits one's ability to do something, the characters must find a creative way to overcome their disability. Sometimes, a disability can improve one senses to an extent that is greater than the average individual.

Big three disabilities seen in anime

See no evil, speak no evil, hear no evil
See no evil, speak no evil, hear no evil

In anime the idea of "See no evil, Speak no evil, Hear no evil" has often been adopted into characters.

  • Mute-Those unable to speak
  • Deaf-Those unable to hear

From Injury

Paralyzed-Those unable to move arms/legs due to a severe injury to the back or neck
