A large franchise of anime, games, and toys that started with a virtual pet akin to a Tamagotchi.
Although it all started with the virtual pet, Digimon has become a significant anime franchise in its own right. The anime focuses on groups of children-- "chosen ones" --who are transported to the Digital World, where they bond with their own Digital Monster and do battle against forces of evil.
