It looks like Moon Phase caught something on Marvelous Entertainment's site that they weren't supposed to see, since it's down now...but word is that Ichiban Ushiro no Daimaou, a light novel by Shoutarou Mizuki and artist Souichi Itou, is getting made into an anime. The series is set in the future (30th century), and apparently our future features...magic!

Set 100 years after a big war between humans and the Daimaou, a demon king, humanity has won and civilizations are rebuilding. An abandoned baby named Akuto grows up in a church orphanage as a kind and gentle man, and even passes a test to enter a special high school for magic-users. But the first thing he does there is take a "Vocational Aptitude Test," which declares that he will one day become the next Daimaou...

So there you have it! I mentioned earlier that this fall seems to be big on fantasy series, but maybe it's more of an ongoing trend? Hmm. I like fantasy, and this sounds potentially cute, but it also looks a little I dunno.

I've only glanced at a couple of chapters of the manga, but so far it seems to be somewhere in the realm of Harry Potter (it's even got a Sorting Ha...crow with a cigar in the first chapter!) with a good dose of ecchiness (in each of the first two fight scenes I found, at least one girl loses their clothes. I guess bras don't come standard in magician outfits?). Though unlike Zero no Tsukaima, at least the guy isn't a total wuss who passively takes the beating out of some strange interpretation of love, so we'll see...

Is it just me or dose that guy look like Keiichi Maebara  from Higurashi no Naku Koro ni.
