@Gia: About your 4:3 comment. For some reason Anime Network has their video player set to have its content fill up the entire player (or if you full screen it, the entire screen) by default. This is not the correct aspect ratio. But if you right-click the player, you can change it to the correct widescreen 16:9 mode.

Interesting subtitle choice for the image on the front page. I know that I should be talking about the other things in this show, but a thousand years into the future and sex-ed is still focused on superstitious theories?
On a more-related note, I actually found myself liking this first episode. Also, the ED was surprisingly cool. Hopefully the second one will be a bit better.

Uh, was the camera blinking? I noticed the image darken out twice just before the 1 minute mark.
Probably after the trailer's release they got word that the image might of been too strong of a crotch shot, and they were told to do something to censor it before airing. Probably wont be there on the DVDs.

I'm not really at all impressed with the selection on the Anime Network's site. Out of all the series I saw there. I could name maybe three I'd want to watch, and most of those were pay only. I'm not going to buy a video game system so I can play one or two games. I'm not going to pay Anime Network monthly for three shows.

Yeah the review is pretty accurate, the anime is pretty interesting.

You guys should probably check out Angel Beats, i think the staff would like that one as well as a few other people.

I'm surprised everyone thinks the "sorting hat" idea immediately makes this a Harry Potter clone,when it is not, seeing as unlike Hogwarts the school is publicly known, not mention the magic isn't only limited to the already overused wand (Did I mention flying without a broom?) Frankly I'd love to point out in his "demon" mode showed in the ending credits, his facial scars are nearly identical to Takeru from "This Ugly Yet Beautiful World" , mixed with the body of Chrono from Chrono Crusade, with the clothing style of Mid-Boss from Disgaea, but hey its ONLY a harry potter clone (Not even close). In any case the fan service in this anime is rather light, especially compared to most of last, and many of the current quarter's runners. Example's being Ikkitousen Xtreme Xecutor, Queen's Blade, SEIKON NO QWASER (insert giant face-palm), Chu-Bra (ditto), Ladies vs Butlers (the first ep is fine proof), Omamari Himari, Kiss x Sis (need I say more?).
The first episode isn't too bad, I mean considering its another Harem based magic-battling-school anime, you cant be expecting much right?

1) Interesting story (though some parts lack timing)
2) Simple set-up (nothing too complex)
3) Mysterious past (cliched but not too bad)
4) Rather average fan-service (there's much much worse out there)
5) Consistent animation quality (well done)
Con
1) blur censoring (there has to be a better way to hide something)
2) character intro's fast paced ( in first ep show up out of nowhere in the last 5 minutes)
3) Boring Opening (end of ep 1 the ED is actually the OP lol, music isn't all that great)
Overall 7.5/10

"Ehh, it may not be super robust, but then again, the only reason crunchyroll started with a library was because they had such a huge base of pirated shows. I agree though, if there's not enough to sell you, don't buy, but i wouldn't write them off forever. Assuming they still keep throwing in most of the Section 23 titles, they'll just continue to get a robust collection. Esp. if they can do a few more simulcasts

Like, its harder to imagine the kind of shows where the dudes lose all of their clothing, tongue in cheek, and then get the degrading slow pans/terrible special effects.

@John_Martone: Ah, that is a good point. Girls sexualize boys differently than boys sexualize girls. In a strange way, the male equivalent of lacy lingerie is... a tuxedo. So yes, I'd say the Wallflower is full of fanservice, much in the way "Twilight" is.
Now, I recognize that when the term "fanservice" comes up we're not always speaking about high art or anything, but I've never been happy with this strange divide between the realms of Mars and Venus. I appreciate a show like Evangelion, where Shinji's naked just as often as his female co-stars (and it is played both straight and for laughs).
If the physical side of sexuality is going to be a focus, and the camera's gaze falls only on one team or the other, it seems like hearing only half a conversation. Society would probably benefit, on the whole, if people tried to market entertainment to human beings, rather than Team Pink or Team Blue.

It has been my distinct pleasure to watch onsite as hardened dude gamers writhe at how they "shouldn't" be enjoying incredibly "girly" shows like Skip Beat, and acknowledging that McDreamy is McDreamy doesn't threaten their sexuality.
