Death the Kid is son of Shinigami-Sama and one of three main characters of the anime series, Soul Eater.
The son of Shinigami, Death The Kid is also a student at Shibusen after enrolling for his own personal reasons. He has obsessive-compulsive disorder and believes symmetry is beautiful and is disgusted by anything that lacks symmetry to the extent of collapsing or coughing up blood. This obsession can also help or hinder him in battle, as he refuses to destroy a symmetrical opponent.
He wields the Thompson sisters, Liz and Patty Thompson, as weapons to satisfy his symmetry urge and refuses to fight without the two of them to preserve his own symmetry. He also possesses a flying skateboard called Beelzebub which he uses as a means of transportation and also a weapon at times. As Shinigami's son he is often sent on missions by his father as he is different from other students. He possesses one of the most powerful Soul Resonances, the "Death Cannon" which makes him a very powerful student and ally to Shibusen.
Kid was created by Atsushi Okubo as a part of a series of one shot mangas that premier in the Monthly Shonen Jump. He was the last character to get a one shot after Maka Albarn and Black Star. He makes his first appearance in the manga in Volume 1, Chapter 3 and episode 3 of the anime. He is voiced by Takako Honda in the drama CD, Kaori Nazuka in the Japanese anime, and Todd Haberkorn in the English version.
In the beginning of the series, Kid appears to be a bit stuck up due to his neurotic behavior about how things should be symmetrical. That, and being the son of Shinigami-sama, people assume that he might be a brat who is all talk and no fight. He proves this to be false as he can hold his own against numerous opponents and enemies. Kid claims that he wants to work hard in order to succeed his father and make the whole world symmetrical. He relaxes a bit with his OCD problems whenever Liz and Patty are around as well as his fellow friends from Shibusen.
He remains the same throughout the series but always remains hesitant to believe anything his father says since he tries to put together his own beliefs on things. Kid discovers the truth about many things after he enrolls as Shibusen such as how his father sealed Asura under the school, how he and Eibon created demonic weapons, even how insanity works in the world.
After Kid was kidnapped by Noah and locked away in the Book of Eibon, he came across an entity who claimed he could have the power his father once had. Kid begins to grow more insane with each passing moment as Black Star helps him to realize that symmetry in the world is unnecessary. Then after defeating Noah Kid and others go on the moon to stop the Kishin.
At first, Kid was not a student at Shibusen and instead ran personal missions for Shinigami that were too advanced for regular students. After accidentally blowing up the Pyramids of Giza, he does not go on any missions and instead helps his father oversee activities at the school. During the remediation lessons that Shinigami gave to Maka, Soul, Black Star, and Tsubaki, Kid watched as they fought Sid Barrett and Franken Stein. He knew that they were no match and went to help. His father told him he couldn't interfere since he wasn't a student. Kid decides then to enroll at Shibusen and craft Liz and Patty into his own Death Scythes.
When he arrived he got a less than warm welcome from Black Star and Soul, who both were getting really sick of his high and mighty attitude. granted they did not even know him, they thought that he was better than them. During a fight though, Kid trounced each of them fairly easily. He even broke out his Death Cannon to put them down once and for all, however once they were beaten Kid fainted and spurted out a little blood because during the fight Soul chopped off a little of his hair, making his face unsymmetrical. However after this he began to form a friendship with not only Soul and Black Star, but as well as the rest of the members of Shibusen. Black Star and he formed a bond of sorts when the two of them hunted down the legendary sword Excalibur, only to have to put up with his pompous and annoying attitude. The two of them realized that if they could each put up with Excalibur, then they can't be that bad.
After the encounter with Excalbiur, Death started to spend more time with Maka and Black Star and their weapons, forming a solid friendship with the four. He witnessed the battle between Black star and Tsubaki against the Demon Sword Masamune and congradulated the two when they returned after the successful mission. Even during the preparation for Stein's extreme exam, he spent a decent amount of time studying but failed to answer a single question due to the fact he spent the entire hour writing his name, ensuring it was perfect.
Even then, Death and the Thompson's would go on high level missions on behalf of his father. Before the Christmas Eve ceremony, the three would travel to Europe to find the ghost ship Nibblogh as it supposedly was devouring souls at an alarming rate. After finding the demon ship, he found all the souls of the humans who were captured by what witnesses describe as "The Black Dragon". Finding the Captain of the ship, the demonic seaman explains that he has captured all the souls for the Kishin that resides under Shibusen. This confused Kid as he attempted to attack but Liz was thrown to the lower decks of the ship, leaving Kid unable to fight due to a loss of symmetry.
After being reunited with Liz, Kid starts to fight the Captain, but is quickly interupted by Crona and Ragnarok. Slaying the Captain, Crona absorbs all the human souls on the ship and flies off with Ragnarok, Kid in close pursuit. However, Kid allowed his love of symmetry to distract him when he noticed how balanced the skyline was, chasing after than instead of Crona. Returning to Shibusen with a failure, Shinigami-san did not seem to be too upset with Kid's failure. Kid demands though that his father explain to him why the Captain of the Nibblogh said that there was a Kishin under Shibusen.
