Death Note

Overview

Death Note is the first anime series of the Death Note franchise that is based on the manga series written by Tsugumi Ohba and illustrated by Takeshi Obata. The series was directed by Tetsurō Araki, music by Hideki Taniuchi and Yoshihisa Hirano. It's a seinen action series based in both reality with a supernatural twist. It is produced by the MADHouse Studios, and has aired in Japan on various distributors throughout it's run on television. The first episode originally aired on October, 3 2006. The series ran for thirty-seven episodes, the last airing on June 26, 2007.

The anime follows closely to manga series. The U.S. production rights were acquired by VIZ Media, and provides an English dub for the anime series. It began airing in American on October 21, 2007. The last episode aired on July 4, 2008. The English script was adapted by Stephen Hedley Michelle Clough Karl Willems.

Plot

When brilliant, but bored, student Light Yagami finds a notebook known as Death Note, which was dropped to Earth by an equally bored Shinigami or Death God called Ryuk. This notebook has the ability to kill anyone who has their name written to it, he then decides to use it to rid the world of evil. Due to a large number of criminals killed in different parts of the world, all of which were heart attacks, the world begins to notice. A legendary yet mysterious detective was brought to the case. The battle of wits of the two genius now begins.
