Deadman Wonderland is a dark-action series about a young boy who's framed for the slaughter of his classmates and sentenced to the privatized prison that doubles as an amusement park for the public called The Deadman Wonderland.

Overview

Deadman Wonderland is a series that was the original concept of the team Jinsei Kataoka, writer; and Kazuma Kondou, artist. The first chapter was published in Kadokawa Shoten's Shōnen Ace magazine in 2007. It's an action-drama series series that contains graphic images of violence and blood. The manga was later adapted into both an anime and light novel series.

Plot

Ganta Igarashi is the prime suspect in a mass murder of his school classmates and is then taken to the "Deadman Wonderland" where he meets a girl named Shiro who helps him while trapped in the hellish prison. It isn't soon after that he realizes that he is a contestant in one big game between the "Deadmen", a race of super-humans who use their own blood as weapons and Ganta is one of these individuals...

Deadman Wonderland is a dark action manga series written by Jinsei Kataoka, and illustrated by Kazuma Kondou, artist. It was originally serialized in Kadokawa Shoten's Shōnen Ace magazine in 2007. The first volume collection of the manga was released on September 26, 2007. The standard price for the volume collections were ¥567 each.

In North America, the Deadman Wonderland series was originally published by TokyoPop and Volume 1 was first released on February 2, 2010. They only published six volumes in the U.S. by the time TokyoPop shut down in the U.S. in 2011.

Deadman Wonderland is the first anime series based upon the Deadman Wonderland manga series that was created by Jinsei Kataoka, writer; and Kazuma Kondou, illustrator. It's produced by Manglobe. The anime is directed by Koichi Hatsumi, as his first lead directing role; and the script was written by Yasuyuki Muto. The music is composed by NARASAKI. The first episode debut in Japan on April 16, 2011. The anime contains graphic scenes of violence and use of blood. The series ran for a total of twelve episodes and the last one aired on July 3, 2011.

Episodes of the series were first simulcast on Crunchyroll with English sub-titles to western audiences. The licensing rights was then acquired by FUNimation Entertainment and would host the series on both HULU and YouTube. The English translation was compsosed by Matt Del Giudice. No release date has been given for the U.S. release of the anime.

Deadman Wonderland: Wielder of the Red Knife is a special OVA (Original Video Animation) based on the Deadman Wonderland series, and is directed by the anime series director Koichi Hatsumi, written by Yasuyuki Muto, and music composed by NARASAKI. The animation was produced by Manglobe. It was originally released as a Blu-ray and packaged with a special edition of Deadman Wonderland Vol. 11 on October 23, 2011.

Deadman Wonderland is the first light-novel series of the Deadman Wonderland series that was created by Jinsei Kataoka, writer; and Kazuma Kondou, illustrator. The light-novels are written by Akira Mutsuzuka. It was originally serialized in Kadokawa Shoten's The Sneaker magazine, and the first edition collected version was released on April 28, 2011. The novels had two volumes, and the final was released on July 20, 2011.
