If it didn’t require more effort than it’s worth - - and if it wasn’t incredibly narcissistic - - there might be some value to taping myself as I watched this show. You know, like those stupid “So and so watches/reacts to…” videos that sometimes pop up on the Recommend Viewing barring on YouTube.
If I did such a thing, you’d wonder if your video had stopped loading, because my expression wouldn’t be changing. It’d be expressionless and fixed (much like a stone!), and a slight smirk would flash on it for one moment - - flashing so fast that you’d seriously wonder if you just imagined seeing it.
In other words, I didn’t find this chibi comedy about a werewolf investigating super-crimes by chewing on strands of hair to be funny, at all. I don’t know if I even want to blame it on my general distaste for chibi, because I rather enjoyed the ROCK LEE show (though, perhaps that falls under a different classification of super-deformity?). This honestly felt like some half-baked SNL sketch that keeps getting air-time only because whichever actor cooked it up has been on the show for a long time and the producers feel obligated to throw him a bone.
There’s a specific texture to a comedic premise that’s being pushed past its suitable shelf life after it wasn’t that well thought-through to start with, anyway. The notion of a hair-obsessed werewolf detective outlives its potential humor here at the very moment it goes from being a one-liner to a concept that - - oh shit! - - they’re actually going to play out. This should’ve been a throwaway gag in another series, not the basis for a series itself.
Yeah, I invoked on this one at the half-way mark. The only par t that was funny to me was when of the bad guys was having to take time to load an old flint lock rifle - - that's the reason for the one smirk I mentioned above. That’s it. PASS.
Watch this episode, "Counterfeit Currency Printing Incident/Inaba Hiroshi Kidnapping Incident" here and decide for yourself.
