Having lost your family is one thing, but finding out that they were never your family to begin with is just crazy! And on top of that, Mahiro's a princess?!
After the tragic death of her parents, Mahiro is forced to live with her aunt, uncle, and cousins. They turn her life into a living hell so she moves out, quits school, and gets a collection of part-time jobs to save up one day for her own home. Then, when she's working as a crossing guard, a pair of handsome young foreign men kidnap her.
Later they explain that Ren is her long lost older brother who was separated from her when she was three, but because he was thirteen at the time he remembered who she was and came back for her. The entire time he'd been serving in the military of America where he had met Jake, the other man with him.
Ren then explains that the reason they had been separated was because their mother had died and their father remarried a cruel woman who wanted the king's fortune to herself. And yes you read right, king. She was a princess! Their step-mother wanted Mahiro dead and sent two servants out to kill her and her brother but the two servants were dearly loved by their mother and instead of killing them helped them escape.
Now in the present, their step-mother is looking for them; she had later discovered they were still alive and wants them dead for the crown. The crown is a lovely diamond made from a rare form that the queen of their small country is to wear, but because Mahiro has it, their step-mother cannot ever truly be queen.
