Cross is a general of The Black Order who is Allen Walker's master. Cross has the unique ability to convert Akuma to do his bidding.
Cross had joined the Science Division of the Black Order years before the start of the series. He became friends with Mana and Nea Walker. But both subsequently died. Upon the death of Mana Walker, an acquaintance of Cross Marian's, he decided to take in the former's son as his exorcist disciple. It was a rough ordeal for his pupil to say the least. Cross would carelessly put Allen into troublesome situations such as leaving his debts for Allen to pay off.
When Allen was fifteen, Cross sent Allen off on his own to finally become a proper exorcist. He sent Allen off to the European Branch of the Black Order with a letter of recommendation sent ahead of him to the Branch Chief, Komui Lee.
Cross also has an unknown past history with the Earl of Milennium.
Cross Marian is a supportive protagonist created by Hoshino Katsura for the series D. Gray Man.
Cross Marian is a middle aged man of tall stature, pale skin and average build. He has stark red hair that reaches his back and a short goatee of the same color. He wears a long black coat heavily ornamented with gold designs and buttons. he has a black rimmed hat of the same color scheme and white gloves.
Cross is a vulgar man in every sense of the word. He is somewhat perverted and a flirt yet he's also vulgar in his speech, regularly using profanity. Additionally, his treatment of some of those that are close to him are notoriously bad, such as making Allen work and bear the brunt of his debts as a child or leaving Anita, his former lover abruptly. Despite Cross' many faults, he has good aspects to his character as he is both a competent Exorcist and General and can and does work well with others when the situation requires him to do so. He also enjoys the finer things in life. Mostly women and expensive wine.
Allen Walker - His protege. Essentially his step son but he was not particularly kind to Allen when he was raising him. There is a distance between the two but there is also a strong bond that neither tend to admit.
Anita - An Ex-lover of Cross' who continued to love him deeply.
Cloud Nyne - A fellow general of the same rank as Cross. A drinking partner of Cross' but he also tries to woe her.
Cross secretly was an observer of the battle that unfolded in Edo between his pupil and allies, vs the Noah and Akuma. Upon Allen had fought Tyki Mikk almost to a standstill, but finally fell on the defensive side, Cross intervened. Cross then faced Tyki himself who had entered his awakened state at this point. Cross concealed the presence of his allies so that that Tyki could not attack them and he took him on alone. Cross actually managed to inflict heavy wounds to Tyki then forced the Noah to the ground in defeat. Cross was prepared to finish Tyki, but Tyki's own boss the Earl was also not so quick to see his subordinate die and personally stepped in. Cross and the Earl made small talk as they knew each other for reasons unknown. before the Earl departed via Road Kamelot's door ability while Cross and the others would need to somehow escape the Ark which was crumbling before their eyes via some other means.
Cross led Allen and Lenalee away from the crumbling room, then used magic to transport Allen to he Noah Piano room, which was the control room with orders for him to stop the arc from self destructing. Allen was concerned about leaving Lenalee with his perverted master but realized it was of minor importance compared to the task at hand. Allen played the piano, guided in a mysterious way for which he did not understand at this point. He successfully managed to halt the Ark's destruction, saving everyone present, and preventing the Earl's new Ark from completing. It was the Exorcists' complete victory. Once disaster was averted, Allen and Lenalee realized just how odd Cross' knowledge of the Noah's Ark was and he was about to be questioned when their other allies arrived. Cross began to flirt with Lenalee and told her it was too bad that she had lost her hair, but when Lenalee told him that Anita had said the same thing, Cross was silent, remembering his now deceased Ex-lover.
Upon exiting the Ark, General Cross' group convened with General Tiedoll's group and they prepared to head back to headquarters together. Cross realized it was a good chance for him to slip away as he had little interest in returning to headquarters, but he was caught by Lenalee, who pretended that she wanted him to stay, clinging to him. This was easily enough to convince the General not to escape.
Once back at headquarters, Cross attended a meeting for the Upper Brass of the Black Order. He was considered suspicious by Malcolm C Leverrier as he was connected to the 14th Noah in an unspecified way. By extension, his pupil Allen Walker was considered suspicious as well. Malcolm ordered that both Cross and Allen remain at headquarters and that both would be under continued surveillance. Cross told Malcolm to do whatever he wanted with Allen, but as a General, he was allowed certain privileges which did not extend to Allen. Malcolm said that they would do just that and that Allen would be interrogated by the Inquisition, historically a notorious Catholic committee that tortured blasphemers in the name of God. However, Branch Chief Komui Lee delayed the procedure by demanding a written letter for the accusations.
When the meeting was convened, despite having special treatment, Cross could still not leave so he decided to make the daily lives of his observers miserable by sending them out and having them buy him expensive dishes with their own money. Cross was at leas t free to roam the headquarters and he sat for a drink with fellow General Cloud Nyne. Cross was quick to flirt with her but his usually effective charm did not work on the General.
A short time later, the base was attacked by surprise by the Noah Lulu Bell. She had to to retrieve the Akuma Egg that the Black Order had taken when they captured Noah's Ark and she brought an army of level 3 Akuma in tow. Allen and Bookman were first to intercept Lulu Bell. But Lulu Bell proved too strong and she knocked out Allen. Intending to kill all the Bureau scientists and kidnapping Allen along with the Egg, she was stopped in the nick of time by the arrival of the 4 General, Cross, Cloud, Tiedoll and Socalo. Accompanying them were Miranda Lotto and Noise Marie. With the arrival of 6 more exorcists, 4 being the General no less, the tide quickly turned in their favor even with level 3 Akuma on Lulu Bell's side. Lulu Bell desperately tired using Miranda as a hostage, but Cross would not take the bait and instead fired at the Akuma egg which naturally turned Lulu Bell's attention. Before she could take any further measures to save the egg, Allen had sneaked to the egg already and shattered it. Lulu Bell was horrified but as she left, one of the remaining Akuma underwent a transformation. It became a dreaded level 4 Akuma, the manifestation of supreme despair. The aura it gave off was so sad that Allen puked where he stood. The more experienced Generals Cross and Tiedoll prepared their techniques, but he level 4 was not so easily dealt with. It crushed the entire floor and all 4 Generals fell below. It was up to Allen and Lenalee to fight it whilst defending the powerless Chief Komui. Luckily, Lenalee's damaged Innocence evolved and she was able to fight with Allen at a considerably high level, but the Akuma was still tough for the duo. It was about to land a solid blow on the two when Cross reappeared. Using his Innocence Grave of Maria's ability Carte Garde, he was able to temporarily hijack the Akuma's body. He rendered it immobile long enough for Allen to plunge his Sword of Exorcism in it's stomach. But this was not enough yet. The trio continued to Ambush it, Cross shooting it 5 times himself. Even after it's numerous wounds the Akuma would not fall but realized it could not win, it fled for the entrance but General Socalo and Cloud blocked it's path. Now trapped on all sides, it was vulnerable to Lenalee's final kick which smashed the Akuma into bits, beating it at last.
Even in this state the Akuma clung to life with a fragment of it's face, but Cross pulled out Judgement and shot it. With disaster averted, everyone began to collect themselves. Cross pulled Malcolm to the side and told him that if he would allow him to speak with Allen, he would tell him what he wanted to know about the 14th Noah.
Judgement is an equipment-type Innocence takes the form of a large caliber revolver. There is little or no time needed between shots and Cross can fire them off back to back. A Cross symbol form on whatever is struck by the bullet.
This technique causes the bullets to continually chase their intended target even if they strike an obstacle along the way.
An energy bow is formed around the gun and a Cross forms at the front. A truly powerful shot is fired.
Sin Annihilation Level
Cross increases the power of synchronization between himself and Judgement. This increases the overall power of his attacks, at least up to 3 times.
A parasitic-type of Innocence that originally was not Cross' weapon at all. When donned, a coffin appears. Upon it opening, a beautiful woman in a long, flowing, ruffled, black dress emerges. The woman is Maria, the original wielder of this innocence, now deceased, but using sorcery, Cross made her and her innocence into his own weapon.
An ability that allows Cross to control the movements of anyone who hears the song that Maria sings.
This ability causes those targeted by Cross to become completely concealed from sight via illusions.
Cross is highly skilled in the Magic arts, perhaps the most skilled seen. It has granted him a number of abilities.
Cross is able to transport others to a different location. The specifics are unknown but presumably he must be in the presence of the thing in question to transport it. The limit to the distance also unknown.
Cross is able to disguise himself as something else via magic.
Normally, the Innocence of the deceased is not reusable without elaborate measures taken. However, Cross was not only able to use the Innocence of his deceased partner, but her corpse as well which appears to be permanently preserved and under his control.
