I suppose this is the real difference between Americ an and Japanese TV standards. They were able to do an entire episode about the crew tripping on 'shrooms. The look on Spike’s hung-over face was priceless; though I'm s urprised they didn’t go all the way and show his pupils dilate. It’d fit considering how big anime eyes are already.
This whole thing reminds me of my friend who was a big anime fan in high school. He kind of went off the deep end in college and would call me periodically call me to tell me about how he was trying to grow shrooms in the woods even though "the weather wasn't right." Perhaps anime was the cause all along?!
By the way, isn't the COWBOY BEBOP movie called "Stairway to Heaven?" The frog tells Spike he's on the stairway to heaven during his trip. Foreshadowing, perhaps?
Ah... another of one my favorite episodes with the right mix of comedy and action (struck better than some other shows.) Actually once again, it reminded me of a Buster Keaton short or, to bring it back to this world, a LUPIN III toon. And Ed finally got a chance to give her solo! I suppose this means that the inevitable “dark secret” from her past is going to rear its head.
I expected that the one guy was going to be dragging a Gatling gun in that coffin. Hoo boy, was I wrong! The run-over gag was hilarious for playing on expectations. Considering how there have been so many movie nods throughout the series, I suppose they were intentionally trying to play on allusions to DJANGO. Actually, there were a lot of gags in this - - and I was enjoying all of 'em. I love how this episode basically started as an office/roommate dispute.
"Who ate the food?!"
It was almost like asking who snagged the last piece of somebody's birthday cake in the common kitchen. Thus, the reveal of Faye being the guilty one was perfect. It totally fit her character and (played on gypsy stereotypes!) I suppose you could say the food poisionng was her "just deserts "- - ho ho!
