...???
Okay, this is less newsy-news, but I thought you guys might be interested in some of the responses on 2ch to the news that Sunrise had struck a deal with Fox for a live-action Cowboy Bebop film starring Keanu Reeves. Here are some of the most interesting:

I'm worried, but if the Japanese staff is involved, it can't turn out that bad.”

Is Keanu Reeves going to grow shaggy hair?”

I've come to the conclusion that [making a Bebop film] is unnecessary and impossible.”

Will Yama-chan do the Japanese-language dub?” (Yama-chan is Kouichi Yamadera, the seiyuu who voiced Spike in the anime.)

Miho Takagi is Faye” (though I doubt they'll pick a Japanese actress for Faye...)

I wonder if the famously short-legged Keanu can play the role of Spike?”

My only worry is Ed.”

But Keanu doing it will be fun...”

The question is, who will play Ed?”

I wonder if Ein will appear?”

I think the anime movie is better.”

Please don't turn Spike into a modern high school student LOL” (a reference to Dragon Ball Evolution, surely)

The Japanese staff is involved? And instead of C-grade actors they got Keanu? This could really boost the image of Japanese animation!”

A lot of this sounds pretty familiar, doesn't it? Man, I wish I had time to just translate them all-- there's some interesting stuff here.

My only worry is Ed too. And Ein.

Staff
NO CG CORGI!  I want a real Welsh Corgi to play Ein.

Keanu Reeves with Japanese seiyuus? Kinda weird to me..

OkazukiIchigo: It's pretty standard for Hollywood films in Japan. Sometimes certain actors even have regular seiyuu who play their roles. There's a Japanese seiyuu voicing Keanu Reeves' role in The Day The Earth Stood Still...though I can't find the name at the moment.

I must say I like Reeves but he better pull something more then that monotone voice of his. (proof:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bSZc_coPHFA)
I say get Robert Rodriguez to direct it

My only fuss is that they have to maintain the jazz element, as well as the 90's retro-futurism (just as the Fallout series was based oon 50s America like Sky Captain and STeampunk is 19th century). There were a number of 90 references in the show, and the defining factor of that influence was the episode where they highlighted the Betamax versus VHS war.

Other then that, I personally feel Bebop is one of those few anime that can make the transition to live-action easier than others. Aside from the fact FOX is doing it, hopefully, if they learning something from the prospective fail of DBE, they could change that.
