Excitedly if weakly hyped in Newtype as "the best film for all the family, apart from something by Disney," this Christmas feel-good movie was based on a novel by Tamio Kageyama and written for the screen by live-action director Okamoto. A scientist's child on an idyllic Pacific island befriends the titular creature, a baby plesiosaur whose mother has died. Other, less scrupulous people are searching for this relic of the dinosaur age, and our hero teams up with a beautiful female journalist to keep Coo safe until he can be released into the wild.

This charming film, greatly helped by ravishing backgrounds researched on real-life Pacific islands at great expense to the sponsors at the Fiji Tourist Board, marries the 1990s ecological fad of Free Willy and Fly Peek to the eternal guarantee that dinosaurs will get children into theaters.
