Pikachu floating over the Comic Con floors. I can't help thinking that it's a metaphor for something.

As you might have surmised from the videos we put up here, there was a noticeable manga/anime presence at the San Diego Comic Con and I was all up in it .  While I didn’t get to stick around any of the booths for too long (given my other responsibilities) I can say that this show provided some concrete examples of what I’ve enjoyed so much about discovering anime through this site.

See, Comic Con’s more-or-less the highlight of my year.  Every time I go to one, I can’t help but think about where I was the previous year (what was going through my head and so on.)  I’m pretty sure that a lot of the same anime displays and cosplayers were at SDCC 2009. They probably hadn't changed. What had changed was me. This year was the first time I could recognize what all the logos were for, where the characters were from and I really did feel like my total convention experience was better for that. What's more, I saw  how greatly the circumference of my "common ground" has increased.  More than a few times, I'd be talking to a colleague and notice how their girlfriends looked a little bored. They came along, even though they weren't really into comics. What were they more into? You guessed it - - anime.  So both parties were often (pleasantly) surprised when I could strike up a conversation about FULLMETAL ALCHEMIST or EVANGELION.

Maybe this isn’t so much a conversation starter as it just an observation, but I’ve always thought that there's value in having diverse interests. Thus, I want to reiterate how positive an experience it's been to delve into the anime culture as I have on Anime Vice.  My horizons really have been broadened and, truly, a whole new world's been opened up to me.

Plus you got to get inside a robot and give away t-shirts!... Just adding to the excitement!

Good to know we Vicers could help you expand on your adventures and experience. I just want to go to a big Con like Comic-Con. And the videos were kinda funny.

@Tom_Pinchuk: Glad to see you getting to know the vast world of anime/manga better. Both this wonderful site (with all of the awesome information and great members) and my 7-hour experence at FanimeCon 2010 in San Jose this past May have greatly broadened my horizons when it comes to the world of anime and manga. I was thrilled when I got into a 15-minute talk with a fellow cosplay photographer who talked to me about the Kampfer and Sora no Otoshimono series (and since I had learned about both of the shows from AnimeVice back in Febuary, I was able to discuss in great detail the two shows with him). I also met a cosplayer dressed as Moka from Rosario + Vampire who we got into a 5-minute discussion over the new manga series (Season II) that R+V was getting this year and she was surprised when I pulled out my 5th volume copy of the R+V manga (the one with Mizore on the cover).

Kudos to the creators of this wonderful site along with the majority of the members for making this website a overall brilliant experience. n_n

It's good that you've been able to diversify your interests with anime.

I wouldn't delve too deep into anime though, there is some dark stuff down there.

@Gasero:  I keep hearing these warnings about some monster called the Overfiend who's lurking down there.

@sotyfan16:  You ought to see the Comic Con hijinks I did for Comic Vine.

@sora_thekey:  It'd have been awesome if I could give t-shirts while trolling around in that mecha.

I enjoyed the article. It's sort of akin to learning a new language in a way. When I first started watching Japanese versions of animes. None of what the people were saying made any sense. After I started to seriously study the Japanese language. I watch them now and it all comes into focus.

What started out sounding like gibberish. Now, makes complete sense. I can even at times follow sentences without the subtitles.

Not only that but it would be very hard to have a person say no to you!...
Also if a person were to say Batman is Bruce Willis then you could have just shot them!

I am definitely attempting to diversify my interests as well.  It's a slow process (as everything I do, aside from eating, is), but I admit I am super-enthused about getting into the world of anime.

Okay, I'll bite.

Why were you surprised to see this story?

@FoxxFireArt:
Just anime at comic-con. It doesn't seem like there would be much of that.

I'm a newbie in both the fields of comics and anime, but I still enjoy getting a bit of a taste of Comic-Con by reading stories like this one on CV and AV.
I'm sure I would enjoy going personally even more, but that's just not an option.
