Comet, a princess from planet Harmonica, is invited to a party with a princess from Castanet, where they discover that the prince of Tambourine, largest world in the Triangle Nebula, is trying to decide which of them he should take as his bride. Comet stomps off to Earth (which, when you think about it, is just as stupid a name for a planet), where her arrival brings magic and joy into the lives of a Japanese family. Comet-san has a convoluted pedigree, dating back to Mitsuteru Yokoyama's 1967 manga in Margaret magazine, itself an attempt to do a more grown-up version of his earlier Little Witch Sally. A Bewitched clone, originally featuring a magical housekeeper from planet Beta, its 1967 TV adaptation was live-action but featured animated sequences directed by Tsutomu Shibayama. The 21st-century fully animated version is a product of its time, playing up the "magical-girl" feel with a far younger protagonist and showing lots of pretty eye-candy girls.
