It’s days like this that make me wish I made electronic music. Call me DJ Mega Assault. If I were, I could confound club rats by offsetting my big, trancy beats with the following bizarre sample…

I love your stubbornness and your kindness and your strength. I love your sad eyes, your clumsiness and the way you have trouble with cats. I love everything about you! So please, don’t hate yourself!

Cyrano himself couldn’t have crafted a more romantic ode to love.

I must believe that dubbing team had to be aware of how ridiculous this show was when they got to recording. You’ve got to be a special breed of earnest to say that monologue without your tongue in cheek. I’m not saying this show is bad - - not even that elusive so-bad-it’s-good - - but it has become something unintentionally hilarious with these past few episodes. Try to tell me that the closing scene with Suzaku and Euphemia basically shaking hands after their dramatic emotional profession of feelings doesn’t feel like the punchline to some extended joke. Outside of EVANGELION, I’m starting to realize that shonen (or seinen, or whatever) is the realm where nudity and skimpy outfits are perfectly OK, but kissing still holds the high danger of cooties.

Something else I’ve been meaning to bring up for a while: have any of you lunatics noticed that the “computer sounds” inside the mechs’ cockpits is the same stock sound effect that was used for the Wonka Vision segment of WILLY WONKA & THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY? I feel like that was used in a lot of cartoons… in the 70s. It’s amusing to think that CODE GEASS dusted it off after three decades of disuse.

Watch this episode "Battle at Kyushu" below, decide for yourself and then read my comments on the previous episode here.

I always thought there was some international database of sound effects. Just look at the Wilheim screams that tend to show up everywhere.

The people who like Code Geass generally fall into two categories, those who find it unintentionally hilarious, and those who take it seriously, I see know that we fall into two different camps, and therefore i will stop trying to justify stuff.

That said, yes, Euphie's declaration was in fact ridiculous. Definately one of the parts I can't take seriously. Right up there with "Commit it to memory because that is the memorable name of the man who has defeated you."

You're probably not going to like the next episode... but i doubt you'll find the one after that to be funny.

EDIT: Though i still think i can erase most plot holes

I don't know where to start with this episode.  Do I mention that both Euphemia and Suzaku confessed their love for each other while Suzaku was murdering troops in the meantime as if they were flies?  Do I inquire as to whether Michelle Ruff nearly died of laughter when she read her lines for that part aloud for the first time? How about how C.C. somehow knows how to pilot Gawain and has a yet another new suit (of course, its origin never explained) to match her new position?  That's like, what, 6 suits she has stashed somewhere?  Maybe I should discuss how creepy the whole Nina scene felt, now that I've heard it in English.  Also, I declare there should be a guitar riff whenever Zero rolls up in Gawain.  It's pretty boss when it appeared in this episode.

I think this is where I finally brought out the popcorn for every episode hereafter.

Also, it's been such a long time since I've seen Willi Wonka that I couldn't notice the computer noises at all.

Yup I definitly fall into the camp of ok this is not AT ALL serious...not even the Thor kind of action serious.  Sigh, ok I'll just go with it and make some popcorn.  It is good in that respect, but as something serious artwork or even really a good character drama yeah no.  WAY to over the top for that.  As a amusement park ride though where you don't ask questions but just enjoy...yeah good for that.

I watched it in dub so the crazyness of the dialogue was less but really, this kind of convoluted high vocabulary stuff I like...but then I read Dickens, Faulkner, and Hemingway for fun so...

@zaldar: The main thing that kills me about this show is that if you want a "balls-to-the-wall" mech show that you shouldn't take seriously, Gurren Laggan has you covered.  I'm not sure if you've seen it, but I'll say it gets universally bonkers near the end of the show, but you know you're not supposed to take anything that seriously, so it's supposed to be expected.

I forgot what happens in the next episode (it's probably something dealing with school), but yeah, as others may have said in length before, this show never gets less crazy.

And I mean never.

@rxanadu: heh you do know that gurann lagan was one of the last watch and learns right?  Yeah it gets crazy but it has a message at least.  One I happen not to agree with as I am an environmentalist and I think population controls are a GOOD thing but though it is intentionally crazy it is trying to show that mech shows can have a point AND still be mech is kind of the anti eva (which makes the fact that I love them both odd I suppose..).
