Coco is one of the Four Heavenly Kings and one of the main characters in the series with almost as many appearances as Toriko. He is the most intelligent of the Kings.
Coco shares a past history with his 3 "brothers" Toriko, Sunny and Zebra. They were all poor children, some if not all being orphans, but they were found and picked up by President Ichiryuu of IGO, who took them in and raised them like sons. He also trained them in the ways of the Bishokuya, and there truly could have been no better teacher for that.
Coco is a dashing young man whose charming looks make most women fall for him. He is a light skinned individual with brown eyes and messy, short black hair. He usually wears a green bandanna with an orange pin on the left side. He wears a red chained earring on his left ear. He wears a beige robe over his black jumpsuit.
After a time skip, Coco's attire changes somewhat. How wears a jacket.
Coco is a serious man who is cold to others because he is the poison man. Folks will avoid contact with Coco except women because of his dashing looks. In the anime, Coco is camera shy as demonstrated with Tina. Coco tells Tina not to video tape him during the Puffer Whale arc.
Note: For his Full Course Menu, please see concept page.
Coco meets up with Toriko and Komatsu at the train station since Toriko requests Coco's help in hunting Puffer Whales. Coco tells Toriko that he sees no death omens on Toriko and Komatsu. However, he lies when he doesn't want to make Toriko worry about Komatsu's death omen. Deep in the Puffer Whale cave, Coco uses his extraordinary eyesight to lead his group in the cave. When Coco and Toriko confront the Serpent of Devil, the two notice Komatsu missing. Coco urges Toriko to rescue Komatsu while he held back the beast. Toriko refused when he asked Coco if he saw a death omen on the monster, which Coco did not. During the battle, Coco got caught by the serpent, and as the beast injected its venom in Coco, Coco used the opportunity to build immunity to the serpent. After Coco's poison had immobilized the serpent, Toriko finishes off the beast with his Nail Punch. Later, Coco and the group arrive at the sandy lagoon where Coco and Toriko gather Puffer Whales. Under Coco's supervision, Komatsu successfully removes one poison sac from one whale. After dining, Coco and the group run across a black GT Robo. The two were immediately terribly intimidated and took battle postures. However, after glancing over at tem, theGT Robo simply ignored them and went on it's own way.
When Coco arrives on Kiss's back, he assists Toriko's gang in capturing the Jewel Meat from the Regal Mammoth. He paralyzes the Regal Mammoth with his poison and urges everyone to get inside the mammoth while he engages the Giant GT Robo that appeared on the scene. During a heated battle, Coco used up most of his poison, the GT Robo by producing hydrogen sulfide. In a crater, Coco has baited the GT Robo to fire point blank range in the hydrogen sulfide gas that created a violent explosion.
Coco only appeared at the beginning of this arc with Toriko, Sunny and Komatsu on the luxurious Gourmet Carriage drawn by 2 Giga Horses, gargantuan horse beasts. The notorious Honey Prison was a stop on the route of the Gourmet Carriage wherein was held Zebra, the Fourth Heavenly King. Despite Toriko's plea, both Coco and Sunny abruptly refuse to aid Toriko in receiving Zebra from the prison. This is soon revealed to be because of Zebra's unreasonable attitude. Toriko and Komatsu were left to retrieve Zebra alone while Coco and Sunny continued on their cruise.
Toriko requests Coco's help in acquiring a certain rare ingredient known as the Meteor Garlic. It is rumored to be at the notoriously famous Gourmet Casino, owned and managed by Livebearer, the Underground Gourmet Boss. Once off the train, there were already troublemakers present, threatening Coco and his party, although they were intimidated by Toriko and fled. They bore witness to the ill effects that certain underground ingredients had on consumers such as the electric Banana, a fruit that permanently alters your mental state, and a boy almost walked into oncoming traffic, but was saved by the Gourmet Yakuza. It was then that they bumped into Match, an acquaintance of Toriko's from Ice Hell.
Coco along with Toriko, Komatsu and Match (who became the new Gourmet Mafia Boss and was seeking to put an end to Livebearer's questionable ways) make their way to Gourmet Casino, where Coco, utilizing his amazingly powerful eyes, easily won every game he joined and intentionally drew the attention of Livebearer, who through a mediary, invited them into the VIP area. There Livebearer meets with them in person and invites them to play his high stakes game of Concentration. The conditions for the battle were if Coco's team won, he would give them the Meteor Garlic but if they lost, he would get to have all of their food memories via a diabolical method he used to extract both taste memories and cooking skill memories, leaving an unfortunate victim with no memory of the foods they had. The game was rigged from the beginning. Not only did Livebearer know the contents under each card, which would need to be eaten by the drawer if they drew correctly, but the ingredients that would be eaten were largely hazardous or nigh impossible to eat aside from Livebearer himself who knew how to prepare all the ingredients and was capable of eating them. But Coco was no fool. Despite Livebearer cheating, Coco's strategic skill was so brilliant that he defeated Livebearer, who in a rage, tried to force them to submit their memories but he and all his lackeys were easily dealt with by Coco and Toriko.
Livebearer, after receiving Knocking from Coco which neutralized most of his movement had no choice and he gives up the Meteor Garlic, however neither Coco nor Komatsu and Toriko knew how to prepare the special preparation ingredient. However the group decide to try and prepare it anyway and Coco along with Toriko and Match make their way to a dining room, expecting that Komatsu will find a way to prepare the Meteor Garlic, however Coco had a different outcome predicted. Surely enough, Komatsu, with a temporarily paralyzed Livebearer as a spectator, struggled to find the proper cooking method. After some time, Coco's knocking wore off and Livebearer was free to move. Being enraged at his loss and being considerably stronger than Komatsu, it would have been expected that Livebearer would kill Komatsu, but like so many before and since, Livebearer was so impressed by Komatsu, that rather than kill him, he willingly taught him the proper cooking method. This was the outcome Coco had envisioned all along, and from that point on, Livebearer had a change of heart for the better, giving up the Underground and becoming a respectable Chef again. With both Komatsu and Livebearer presenting the prepared Meteor Garlic, Coco, Toriko, Komatsu, Match and Livebearer eat the immensely nutritious ingredient, giving all present temporary bulging, muscular physiques, Coco being the most dramatically altered as the Meteor Garlic was most compatible with him. Afterwards, Coco inquires on Livebearer's extensive ingredient knowledge, asking him if he knew where his ultimate goal ingredient ATOM was. Livebearer said that even he did not know of it's whereabouts, however he had heard a rumor about a certain Chef who might, that being Dark Chef Joa.
President Ichiryuu via a recorded message, informed his 4 sons (the Four Heavenly Kings) that the legendary Four Beast would be arriving shortly, and that it threatened the existence of all of Human World. He had managed to defeat it in the past, but couldn't do so this time due to even greater matter he needed to attend to in Gourmet World. He assigned the Four Heavenly Kings to take down the beasts. However due to Zebra's impatience, he stopped the recording, cutting off an important last detail. Soon, the Four Beasts arrive and The Four Heavenly Kings meet them on the battlefield after the pitiful attempts of the Army failed to even phase the beasts. Coco takes on Invitedeath, Capture level 140, an immensely huge monstrosity and the strongest creature he had yet faced. Coco utilized power unseen before including his Poison Armor and Mold Spear. Despite the beast's immense power, Coco managed to defeat it while remaining unharmed, as did the other three Kings with their opponents, Toriko defeating Gaoh, Capture level 127, Sunny defeating King Octopus Kong, Capture level 132 and Zebra defeating the gargantuan Mount Turtle. However, after the beasts' apparent defeat, all 4 of them abruptly dashed away from the battlefield, wounds and all and made their way to the center of Human World. The important fact that Zebra had skipped, was that the Four Beasts were merely "limbs" of the real Four Beast which had been hiding in the underground of Center Human World. Once the "limbs" arrived, the main body of the Four Beast absorbed them all and became the true Four Beast. Coco along with Toriko, Sunny and Zebra and their partner beasts Terry, Kiss and Quinn arrive shortly after, but too late to stop the beast from regaining it's full power. Coco and his allies unleashed their power upon the monstrosity, but to no avail. After individual attacks of their highest caliber and even teamwork, the Four Beast proved too powerful and heavily injured all four of the Kings, poisoning them on top of that with such potency that even Coco could not make antibodies for it. It would have continued to torment them, but Terry, Kiss and Quinn intervened and defend their human partners. Despite all three getting injured to the brink of death, they bought Coco and his comrades enough time to create their ultimate combination technique, the Oushoku Bansan. It was a technique made of pure appetite energy and consumed all it touched. Despite the Four Beast fighting it, the technique proved too powerful, and the Four Beast was finally terminated. All humans it had consumed were released, and a portion of it's meat was left behind, which Coco and the other Heavenly Kings consumed, also sharing it with the millions of people present.
Shortly after their victory over the Four Beast, Coco with his comrades arrive at the legendary Cooking Festival, a cooking tournament held once every four years in a stadium the size of a small city (35 square kilometers) and it holds up to one hundred million people. Only the top one hundred ranked Chef's in the world may participate. Komatsu, who had recently entered the top one hundred ranks at 88th, was invited to participate. Despite hoping to see Komatsu do well, Coco and the other Kings knew an immenent attack from the Bishokukai would take place that day. Surely enough, after the preliminaries, the Bishokukai, led by Starjun stealthily invade, attempting to kidnap the top Chefs of the world for their own benefit. Each of the Heavenly Kings engage in combat, Coco being paired against Bishokukai Vice Head Chef Grinpatch. After finding that his Poisonous Hunting Method was having no effect on Grinpatch, Coco decides to take the battle underground and he drags Grinpatch with him. Coco is not seen again until after the island-wide battle has concluded. Presumably a short time later, Coco meets with both Sunny and Zebra. Toriko was absent due to his depressed mood about his loss to Starjun and letting the latter kidnap Komatsu. There Coco explains what happened to him. The details of the battle are unknown, however according to Coco, he had reached the brink of death in his battle against Grinpatch and had nearly run out of poison, none of it working on Grinpatch to begin with. Right as he had almost lost, his Gourmet Cells themselves manifested outside of his body in a similar fashion to Sunny's Satan Hair and when he gave Grinpatch a dousing of this poison, the latter lost control and went on a crazed frenzy of destruction causing both he and Coco to burrow deeper and deeper underground. They went down so far deep into the planet that Coco came across a mysterious stone-like substance that he later discovered had Gourmet Cells. It also absorbed the calories of living things through contact and slowly grew each time it did. Coco's hypothesis is that this material had arrived at the planet hundreds of millions of years ago, but billions of years after the planet had formed, making it a comparatively young as well as an alien substance. He theorized that by the substance absorbing the energy of the planet over hundreds of millions of years, it grew and grew to such a degree that it enveloped the planet and made it many times larger than the original planet's size, perhaps explaning the reason why the world of Toriko is so gigantic.
As one of the Heavenly Kings, Coco is a powerful opponent whose body is immune to many poisonous materials. According to Toriko, Coco has over 500 different kinds of antibodies. In addition to his powerful immune system, his eyes can detect electromagnetic lights that are produced by living beings. As a fortune teller, he can see death omens on living beings.
Coco can form a membrane (consisting of various toxin materials) on his body to protect himself from enemy attacks. The flaws of his ability is that it consumes a lot of poison in his body, leaving him anemic since his poison glands convert his bodily fluids into poison.
As previously discussed in the section above, Coco's eyes can detect wavelengths of light that a normal human being cannot see. This allows him to see his enemies in pitch black environments. Like a shark, he can detect the electromagnetic lights produced by living beings. Rapid moving objects appear almost as though they are standing still to Coco.
Besides producing poison, he can manipulate poison and other materials to create byproducts such as hydrogen sulfide. Being intelligent in chemistry, Coco can develop certain chemicals to aid him in battle. An example is luring an opponent in shooting in a hydrogen sulfide filled area that combusts instantly.
Coco can shoot a large amount of poison from his fists. He first uses this move against the Serpent of Devil in the Puffer Whale Cave.
Coco can shoot small doses of poison from his fingertips. He first uses this technique to seal the heat pits on the Serpent of Devil.
A liquefied poison Coco creates that is powerful enough to corrode metals instantly, even non corrosive metals.
Coco creates a solid bow and arrow made completely out of poison. with its poisonous properties and Coco's flawless aim, he can snipe foes at tremendous distances away.
A spear made of poison Coco creates with properties similar to that of mold spores. This attack reaches nearly the speed of light in velocity, making it extremely difficult to avoid. Coco could only use this technique once when first used, but it can be presumed that he can create more than one since his Gourmet Cells have gotten considerably more powerful.
Coco can form a sword out of poison for close combat situations.
A highly powerful technique. It is a poison that will change its properties and endlessly adapt to the victim's body and even with extensive immunities, it will eventually find a toxin they have no immunities for and kill them.
Hell Poison -
Another technique used only when necessary. Coco releases a toxic mist into the air that is poisonous, corrosive and flammable all at the same time, making it an ideal technique for foes with multiple defenses.
Machine Gun Poison
Coco shoots large pellets of poison in massive quantities, enough to target many large beasts. They are so lethal that they melt victims on contact, not even leaving their bones behind.
To date, Coco's most powerful technique. It is his final ace in the hole. Coco's Gourmet Cells themselves manifest outside of his body and attack the unfortunate victim. It is so toxic that it caused Bishokukai Vice Head Chef Grinpatch to literally lose his mind, despite being completely immune to all of Coco's other poisonous techniques.
Coco can create "clones" of any being constructed entirely from poison. These clones look exactly like the original being and can be used to trick creatures in eating the poison. The poison for these was able to kill multiple Gourmet World creatures.
