Overview

Claude with his master Alois Trancy

Claude is the butler and body guard of Alois Trancy. Claude is a demon who made a contract with Alois, binded to Alois' will. In later episodes Claude acts as the main villian in the series. Just like Sebastian he is a very skilled in household and combat duties; he throws golden-ware in contrast to Sebastian's silverware.

Claude, who is a demon and a butler, has an unusual connection with chis master because of their contract. his master's orders are absolute. His signature catch phrase is "Watashi wa danna-sama wo akumade musaboritai" traslated as "I want to greedily devour you to the end, my master"

Creation & Appearance

First design

Minako Shiba in collaboration with Kurohitsuji's manga author Yana Toboso, created Claude Faustus... in her first designs, she draw Claude as man with long hair in a ponytail.

Claude appears to be a man in his mid 30's, he is 186cm -188cm tall, he has golden yellow, slanted eyes and a somewhat angular facial structure. His chin is quite flat. as Sebastian he also had black fingernails, he has short, slightly mussed black hair and wears glasses similar to those worn by William Spears.

He wears an outfit similar to the one Sebastian Michaelis wears, consisting of black trousers,tailcoat, dark gray vest, cravat, white button-down shirt, white gloves to hide the Faustian mark in his left hand and shoes. His tongue is remarkably long, enough so that he can lick the bridge of his nose.

Like Sebastian, the mark of his contract with Alois is on his right hand and is covered by the glove he wears. However, it seems that the mark is not always visible, only becoming so when nearing Alois's.

History

Little is known about Claude's past, but is hinted that he might known Sebastian from the past as they are demons. One day Alois trancy went to the forest to summon a "fairy", however afters summoning the demon spider he realized he had no wish that he wanted granted, Claude told Alois to call for him when he finds a wish.

Personality

He has a very different personality from Sebastian Michaelis, in that he speaks and acts emotionlessly not even responding to direct taunts such as Alois undoing his buttons moments after Claude fixed them. Claude is loyal to his master and knows his master's darkness. Sebastian and he are shown to be sensitive in each other's line, as his "gold to dark blue" line is teased by Sebastian, he also teases Sebastian's line "I am a demon and a butler". Both are nemesis to each other. But later, he is shown to be having a peace deal with Sebastian. His personality completely changes after tasting Ciel's blood , his eyes grew red in hunger, judging from the fact he left Alois lying down in pain while licking Ciel's blood off his face.

After this, Claude is very different then he was in the first episode. He seems to become erratic, often acting almost randomly; dancing, making doilies, smiling and blushing. After taking possession of Ciel, Claude is very forward with his actions toward him. He admires how even his skin is and how white his teeth are, fascinated by him in every way. Claude even kisses his foot while dressing him.

Kuroshitsuji II Story

Alois & Claude

A mysterious traveler arrives to the Trancy Mansion, carrying a large steamer trunk, requesting shelter from the storm for the night. Alois tells Claude to let him stay. The traveler asked Alois to show him the mansion and go down to the storage room, taking a box of tea leaves of a flavor called New Moon Drop. Then he is attacked byClaude who discovers his identity, it was Sebastian, also is revealed that he is carrying Ciel inside the trunk. He is attacked by Claude but manages to flee safely into the woods. He opens the trunk and gently places an Ciel in a sitting position. Patting his master on the head, he tells him that it's time to wake up. He opens the New Moon Drop box and takes out the Phantomhive family ring.

The contract between butlers

After those events, it seem like everything went to normal Sebastian resumes his role as a butler while trying to help Ciel to complete his "revenge, then is when is known that Ciel lost his memories and doesn't remember that he already complete his revenge, as Sebastian wanted Ciel's soul he makes a contract with Claude Faustus, in which Sebastian will make Alois Trancy the target for Ciel's revenge. Although the contract is still active as symbolized by the dark rose he wears on his jacket, Sebastian makes clear his dislike of Claude. He states that he will never allow Claude a taste of his master's soul and goes into frequent competitions with him such as cooking pastries or participating in a Danse Macabre.

Claude Serving Ciel

Later, when Claude breaks their contract by taking Ciel from him, as opposed to the conditions set down, Sebastian is clearly enraged. When Claude teases Sebastian by kissing Ciel's foot, he becomes so jealous that he tears apart an entire forest to vent his frustration. He, along with Grell, travel to the remains of Alois' village where a woman tells them the story of what happened to the village before she is killed by the triplets. Grell uses his Death Scyth to kill the triplets, revealing their role in the burning of the village. A scene also shows Hannah kneeling before Ciel, holding his hand in a rose garden. Sebastian is again furious with jealousy, as shown by the demonic aura behind him, and goes to take back his Master.After confronting Claude, he throws the blackened contract rose into the air as a distraction and punches Claude in the abdomen, then declares their deal is off.

Claude & Ciel

when Ciel alters the maze of Alois's Heart- which Sebastian & Claude are racing through by answering questions based around Alois however now Ciel has changed the questions to be based around himself in order to aid Sebastian. When Sebastian got the question: Why did Sebastian Michaelis not eat Ciel's soul? He explains that it was because he had lost his arm which bears the seal of the contract and in a short amount of time Claude had stolen Ciel's soul.Ciel comes to and calls out to Sebastian and orders him to come and eat his soul already. But Alois quickly returns and both he and Hannah go into the clock tower. Both Sebastian and Claude agree to work together in order to retrieve Ciel. However they found that Alois in Ciel's body had contracted with Hannah.

Claude Dying

Hannah makes the butlers battle each other to decide who will ultimately gain Ciel's soul. Sebastian eventually kills Claude with the demon sword. His choice of dying as the butler Alois loves implies that he accepts Alois's feelings and returns them. Alois last statement confirms that Claude is happy that he will be spending eternity with Alois.

Notes

• Claude Faustus' surname is almost certainly derived from the centuries-old German legend of one Faust(/Faustus). In most versions of the legend, Faust, frustrated with his human limitations, sells his soul to the devil for knowledge and power. The devil earns Faust's soul, which is (sometimes) saved by angels due to his repentance and/or devotion to his studies to better humanity.
• the Faust of the story's name probably comes from one Johann Georg Faust, an alchemist and magician from the 16th century who, upon his death by explosion, was so horribly mangled that word got out that the devil had come in person to collect him.
• He has a line similar to Sebastian's "Akumade shitsuji desu kara" which is "Watashi wa danna-sama wo akumade musaboritai"
• He is shown to know Sebastian and he kind of hates him.
• He throws knives and forks just like Sebastian but in golden color
• He wears an outfit similar to Sebastian.
• His contract mark is a golden star in his left hand just like Sebastian's
