Ages ago (or rather, at Anime Expo 2007), Dark Horse announced a new project it was developing in conjunction with mangaka superstars CLAMP. It was going to be published simultaneously in Japan, the US, and several other countries, and Dark Horse was calling the US version “mangettes” (a play on words-- small manga, but also “getsu” means month). Chapters will be published monthly, but in a slightly larger collection than the “floppy” single issues that manga was released in back in the mid-90s (do you still have any of those, by the way? I think my mother threw most of them away, but I used to have a bunch of Tenchi and Ranma single issues.)

...Right, anyway. So you get 80 pages a month of CLAMP manga. But what's the manga about? Well, that's what we've been waiting for a year and a half to find out! Sharp-eyed Kuri spotted the mangettes on Amazon.ca, which include a title and description. Finally! Finally, I can stop stalking Dark Horse editor Carl Horn at events in Portland (where both Dark Horse and I are located) to ask about it! The title is Gate 7 and here's the description:

Between our conscious, waking world and the subconscious state of slumber, there is a thinly veiled plane of lucid dreaming. While the conscious state belongs to individuals, the hidden plane of dreams is one shared by all human minds, past, present, and future. Yet only a few have ever possessed the power to enter this secret realm at will - where a war is being waged to control the waking world. For our earthly wishes and desires are not our own, but under the manipulation of these unseen masters of dreams. The heroine of Gate 7 is Hana, a high-school girl hailing from Kyoto, the daughter of a temple caretaker. Her peaceful ways give her the self-control to act in the hidden realm. But Hana can only reach it through the strange beast that acts as her totem in the world of dreams - and her companion on a journey to confront the puppeteers of our reality!

Unfortunately there aren't any images yet, but there's a bit more information-- the first Canadian release is due August 15 2009, so we can probably bet on that in the States too, and the price is CAD $8.68, about $7 in USD...so maybe we're looking at a $6.99 or $7.99 price? That's all speculation, however.
