Otoko Juku is the juvenile hall where men are sent for being too honorable and too manly, the kind of rough, tough academy one might expect from the team who made Fist of the North Star. Newcomers Momotaro, Genji, and Taio endure bullying and harsh treatment at the hands of class leader Onihige and the evil teachers.

Like Akira Miyashita's original 34-volume 1985 Shonen Jump manga, this show starts as a comedy but soon devolves into fights, the quality of animation dropping along with the story. It retained elements of its comedic past right to the end, however, with Momotaro reading out fake fan mail over the "next episode" shots and pretending to take requests. There was also a 1988 movie directed by Tetsuo Imazawa, in which the gang gets to trash Hawaii, Alaska, Niagara Falls, and Manhattan in a battle of wills with an evil mastermind.

In a bizarre footnote to the popularity of the manga in Asia, former president of Taiwan Lee Teng-hui famously dressed up as the school's tough principal, Heihachi Edajima, for a publicity stunt.V
