Mitsuo wins his game
Mitsuo wins his game

A young man sits in a dark room frantically playing a game on his computer. His walls are decorated with a poster of Rise Kujikawa and photos of Yukiko Amagi. "It's his fault." he repeats over and over. As he wins the game, Mitsuo Kubo lets out a frantic laugh, filled with a manic pride in such a minor accomplishment. In a panic, he rushed to his window when he hears the sound of police sirens rushing by. A grin stretches over his face as he sees the police pass.

Elsewhere in Inaba, the police have cut off the street. Adachi comments how this used to be such a peaceful town as both he and Detective Dojima glance upward. Doujima looks quietly up to the dead body of Kinshiro Morooka hanging upside down from the roof of a nearby building.

The Investigation team at Aiya
The Investigation team at Aiya

In Aiya, Kanji Tatsumi bashes his fist down on the counter. He and the rest of the Investigation Team are confused at the news of the death of their teacher. Kanji thought the victims were only limited to the people shown on the TV. King Moron was never shown on TV, and Yukiko adds he also never appeared on the Midnight Channel.Yosuke's frustrated, and Chie wonders if it was all just a coincidence. Yu doesn't think so, but Yosuke snaps at him, asking why Morooka is dead then. Though he quickly apologizes. Yosuke's now doubting they could possibly catch someone the cops can't find, but Kanji thought that they all got involved because the police can't fight this.

Aiya's special nikudon
Aiya's special nikudon

The tense setting is broken when Aika Nakamura set out orders of Aiya's special nikudon special. Yosuke says none of them ordered this. Aika tells them it's on the house. Though, it's normally only served on rainy days. Yukiko thanks her, but asks why the special service. Aika ignores this question and only tells them to finish before it gets cold. Chie is the first to happily accept and start eating. Twenty minutes later, they are still eating. Little progress seems ot of been made. Forty minutes has passed and none are even near finished or seen any sign of rice. Yukiko thinks they've made a dent, Chie looks as if she's given up, and Yosuke doesn't think they'll hit the bottom. But Yu adds that then needs to keep working and pressing on. Chie agrees they'll get there if then keep going. Yukiko and Kanji both chime in. Yosuke knows that they may not see the truth of the case right now, but they can if they keep going. Yu finally says he still can't see the bottom of the bowl. Yosuke's shocked to finally understand that Yu was talking about the nikudon the whole time. Aika adds that the cost is 3000 yen each, but Yosuke thought she said it was on the house.

The team head to Junes to go back into the Midnight Channel to investigate more on Morooka's death. Yu thinks if he had ever been inside the TV that Teddie would know. Chie notices some works gathered, and Yosuke runs up to ask them what's going on. The worker tells him that someone named Kumada had recently shown up.

Teddie in the real world
Teddie in the real world

Chie and the rest are shocked to see Teddie in the real world and sitting in a massage chair. Teddie had been waiting for them, but they were shocked he could even leave the TV world. He tells them that thre is an exit. He had just never thought to use it before. He only became interested after hanging around with the rest of them. After he explains why the workers thought his name was Kumada, Yosuke asys they have something important to ask.

Teddie's no longer empty
Teddie's no longer empty

In the Junes food court, Yosuke asks if Teddie is sure that Morooka never appeared in his world. When Teddie confirms he wasn't, Yu realizes that Morooka was killed in the real world. Yukiko wonders if the killer did it because the Midnight Channel world failed again. Teddie starts to complains about the heat of the summer and moves to remove his head. Yosuke panics and moves to stop him since there are kids nearby. They could be scarred if they saw his empty shell moving around. Teddie says he's no longer empty. He pulls the zipper and drops the head on the table. Revealed inside Teddie is a handsome looking young blonde boy with blue eyes. Everyone in the Investigation Team are speechless. Teddie says he grew this body quickly so Chie and Yukiko could flirt with him. Chie's shocked he grew a body to flirt, and Yukiko coldly asks just how many times he insist on mentioning that. Teddie asks them if he has any clothes to wear since inside this suit he's like a newborn. Aghast at this news, Chie and Yukiko rush him into Junes to get some clothes.

Dojima working on the case
Dojima working on the case

At the Inaba police station, Adachi asks what Dojima is up to as he sits at his desk looking at some photos. Dojima thinks that the sudden rash of disappearances is somehow involved with the serial murders. Adachi starts to whisper about a recent rumor involving the young boy detective. Dojima cuts him off, wonder what the higher ups were thinking involving a kid in this case. Adachi isn't so shocked since they haven't made any progress. Dojima though blames Adachi for bringing in that weirdo before, and bops Adachi on the head with his file.

Nanako Dojima is on the Junes grocery department shopping. She finds what she was looking for, but a hand suddenly reaches out and grabs it before she can. It's Mitsuo, and he glares at Nanako, asking if she has a problem. Though she hasn't said anything, he calls her a rude brat and starts reaching out for her. But before he can grab her, Yu stands in his way to shield Nanako. When challenged by Yu's presence, Mitsuo runs away. Yu pats Nanako's head as she clings to him in fear. She thanks him and asks why he's there. Yu remembers the head of Teddie he left behind, and again a child is crying at the sight of it.

After taking Nanako home, Yu meets back up with the team to give Teddie his head back. Teddie's happy to have his head back, but is still sad that he doesn't understand anything about himself. Yu places his hand on Teddie's shoulder that they should look together. Yosuke hands Kanji some money to get popsicle for Teddie and Kanji. Chie's surprised to see him acting like such a responsible upperclassman. She seems to be implying something about how someone asking like such an adult doesn't sweat the small things. She finally reveals that whatever she and Yukiko couldn't cover for Teddie's clothes they charged to him at Junes. Yosuke starts to shout and ask why he's paying. While Chie and Yosuke argue, Teddie gives Yu Rise's glasses and asks him to deliver them to her. Yukiko suggests they head out since Chie and Yosuke will probably bicker for a while.

Just outside Marukyu Tofu, the young boy detective starts. Yu and Yukiko notice him, and he seems to have been expecting them to show. Yosuke notices the detective, and Chie and he join the conversation. Once they are all there, he finally introduces himself as Naoto Shirogane. He's been assisting the local police in the recent serial murder case. He suddenly asks if the most recent victim Morooka was their teacher. He ignores Chie's question of why, and he goes on to add how the second victim was also from their school. What bothers him is that Morooka was never shown on the TV before his murder. He glances to Yu and asks what this means, but he replies that he doesn't know. He tells them that he has his eyes on them then leaves.

Rise joins the team

The team meets at the local shrine on Rise's request so that her grandmother doesn't overhear them. Seems she also never saw her abductor's face. Bashfully, Rise thanks them for saving her life. Yosuke's overcome with joy that she really is Risette. She asks Yu if he needs her help, and he hands her the glasses from Teddie. She says that this makes them friends, and Yosuke's overjoyed to be friends with a celebrity.

He tells them that Teddie's been working at Junes as a mascot. Teddie sees them in the food court and joins them. He wants to join in on their stud hunting, and Yukiko warns him not to mention that again. Suddenly, Yosuke says this is more like a three on three group date. Chie shoots him down that they'd never do a group date with them. Yosuke just laughs at how Morooka would have flipped i he heard something like that. While they all knew that no one liked him, they still didn't think he deserved to die the way he did. Yu wants to catch the killer, and Yosuke agress despite the Midnight Channel not appearing.

Yu tells them that they aren't playing, and Rise fires back that the one playing is Naoto. Naoto mentions that they aren't denying their involvement. Rise says that Naoto is the one treating this like a game, and Yosuke adds that he lost someone dear to him. He looks to Teddie and says that they also made a promise.

Naoto says that they may be right about him playing a game. Yosuke asks why he's here and if the police kicked him out now that the killer has been caught. Naoto tells him that his job is over with the killer in custody. He does admit to being sad now that he's no longer needed on the case. Though, he's used to that, then leaves. Chie and the others wonder if this is finally over, and Yu's shocked to hear Yukiko wonder if this is the end of them gathering together like this.

As midnight approaches, Yu Narukami sits in his room in the dark looking at his glasses and cell phone. The TV suddenly comes on, and the laughing image of Mitsuo Kuba appears. A once again confident Yu tells them to be ready to go.

  • Though Kubo is playing a game on his PC, he's shown using a PS2 model controller.
  • No change is shown in Yu's character stat sheet for this episode. Though, in the Persona 4 game, even attempting to finish the special nikudon will help in increasing the player's stats.
  • In the Persona 4 game, Noriko Kashiwagi was voiced by the same voice actress as Margaret.
