Casshern is a cyborg superhero and savior of the human race.
Casshern was first introduced to North America as Casshan in the 70s anime series "Neo Human Casshan". In it, Casshern was a cyborg superhero who fought for the safety of the human race against leagues of robots in a post-apocalyptic future. He was reintroduced in the 90s in the four episode long series "Casshan: Robot Hunter". He has been rebooted once again, in the current ongoing series "Casshern: Sins".
Casshern awakes without warning, finding himself in a dreary field with a dark sky. Immediately, hordes of robots appear chanting "Kill Casshern, devour Casshern!". With ease, he destroys them all with his bare hands. One of the machines claims that if Casshern is destroyed, then the "ruin" will stop. It says that unless Casshern is killed, it will die within half a year. It attacks and Casshern obliterates it. A young woman appears, and observes the chaos, before disappearing in a cloud of smoke.
He cannot remember anything before when he woke up, and is very confused. Wandering about, he meets a young girl named Ringo by a beach. The two converse for some time, with the girl noting that Casshern is abnormally beautiful, without a scratch on his body. Ringo (who is, in fact, a robot) asks him if he is a human-Casshern does not know. Saying that she must leave, the girl begins to leave, before giving him one of the shells she found on the beach, and hugging him. This sparks a memory within Casshern, which shows that he killed someone named Luna. Ringo leaves him alone on the beach, even more confused. He decides to go on a journey to recover his memories.
Meanwhile, a robot meets Ringo, and prepares to kill her, saying that the world is no place for brats. He is just about to kill her, when Casshern appears. Entering a berserk mode (in which his eyes glow white), he brutally destroys the robot. Ringo is badly frightened of him now, but her father-of-sorts, Ohji, appears and takes her away. He appears to know something of Casshern, but does not tell him anything-and leaves.
And thus begins Casshern's adventure....
Casshern is superhumanly strong, able to lift thousands of pounds and decimate large robots in a few blows. He can move fast enough so that he appears to warp-he is also very agile and can perform various acrobatic maneuvers. He is a skilled fighter, and can defeat hordes of enemies at once. Casshern is durable, able to take powerful blows as well as slashes and stabs and continue fighting. In one instance, he was impaled in three different areas before defeating his opponents. He has a healing factor, which activates after a delay. It heals any wounds in moments, and appears to cause serious pain to Casshern. He has healed from dozens of slash wounds, and once was impaled completely through his chest.
Randomly during battle, Casshern enters a berserker state in which he performs to the fullest of his abilities and does not stop or hold back until his enemies are destroyed. He seems to enter this when his life is in serious danger, after a prolonged amount of time fighting, or when angry. While in berserker mode, his eyes glow a bright white.
