A cute young girl accidentally unleashes a slew of "Clow Cards," which wreak havoc among humans. She must recapture them using magical girl powers bestowed on her.

Overview

 
Ten-year-old Sakura Kinomoto opens a strange book in her father's library and unwittingly unleashes a set of magical cards called "Clow Cards," along with Cerberus, or Kero, the cards' guardian. Kero tells Sakura that since she was able to break the seal she has magical powers, which she must use to retrieve the cards.

The series spends a significant chunk of time as a traditional magical girl series, in which Sakura retrieves a card in each episode. Over time it gradually goes more in-depth into how the cards were created and why, resulting in a complex tangle of relationships between the series' characters, including Sakura's family members and friends.

The characters of Cardcaptor Sakura eventually become the basis for another CLAMP series titled Tsubasa Chronicle, which opens with Syaoran and Sakura living in a very different set of circumstances but still very much together.
