A cyberpunk anime set in the fictional futuristic "Mega-Tokyo". After the great Kanto Earthquake, the mega-corporation Genom rules the world in all but name. Their only opponents are a secretive group of vigilantes known as the Knight Sabers who fight a shadow war against the excesses of Genom.
The series starts when we see the aftermath of the Second Great Kanto Earthquake, and it has divided Tokyo greatly. Not only physically, but affecting the way the people live and feel about each other as well. The actual year is 2032, and the earthquake happened in 2025, so we start the series after seven years post-earthquake. As with most stories, we also get a small taste of the antagonist of the series, but what sets Bubblegum Crisis apart from other popular anime is that the antagonist isn't one sole person, but an entire company that politically and physically has immense control over Japan and nearly the entire world. The company's name is Genom, and it mainly produces are boomers, which are robots assigned to duties ranging from household to military actions, whatever they need to be doing, it can happen. This is where we have the AD Police, who deal with boomer-type issues and crimes, a very small force for a very widespread problem. To assist with those problems and other criminal issues in Megatokyo, are the Knight Sabers. They are an all-female crime fighting team that uses high-end technology and motorcycle, they are the main protagonist that try and save Megatokyo from disaster.
