Blu-ray Release News

Blu-ray Release is a anime/manga concept
| |

Welcome to this week's DVD and Blu-Ray releases. For this week, it's a small selection. Out of the three, I did watched Sasami-San and Naruto Shippuden. For Sasami-San, it's a strange show. I can't really explain it well. If you're going to watch it, be prepared for some incestuous moments and bizarre, confusing story. I think our Anime Vice's expert can fill you in. For Naruto Shippuden, it's the sequel to Naruto, and for many young folks, this is a popular Shonen anime that served as a gateway drug to anime besides Sailor Moon and Dragon Ball Z. The series isn't for everyone if you are not a Shonen fan because the series has a lot of pacing issues.

I would love to hear your recommendations on these series. All comments are welcome. Thank you.

Flowers of Evil - Complete Collection (Blu-Ray or DVD)
  • Distributor: Sentai Filmworks
  • Suggested retail price: $59.98 (Blu-Ray), $49.98 (DVD)
Darkness lurks everywhere, in every human heart, and sometimes it takes just a second of weakness for it to take root. For Takao Kasuga, that germination begins when his obsession with his beautiful classmate Nanako meets the opportunity to "borrow" her used gym clothes. Unfortunately, his loathsome act of laundry theft is witnessed by Nakamura, the strange girl who sits behind him in class. Soon, Nakamura's own dark obsessions begin to hook their twisted tendrils into Takao's miserable existence.

Blackmailed into a "contract" under the threat of having his guilt revealed to his entire class, the former bookworm who could spend hours reading Beaudelaire's "The Flowers of Evil" now finds himself entwined in Nakamura's growing fantasies as she leads him down the garden path to damnation. As their blossoming relationship becomes ever darker, even the seemingly innocent Nanako is pulled into the nightmare.

Just what are Nakumura's ultimate plans, and will the increasingly trapped Takao really be willing to carry them out? What you sow, you must ultimately reap, and there's certain to be a harrowing harvest ahead!

Sasami-san@Ganbaranai (DVD)

  • Suggested retail price: $49.98
In Japan, the term hikikomori is used to describe people who've become so socially withdrawn that they refuse to leave their homes for weeks and even months at a time. For Sasami Tsukuyomi, a shut-in attempting to pass her first year of high school, it's more than just a word. Fortunately, she lives with her older brother Kamiomi, who just happens to be a teacher at the exact school Sasami is supposed to attend.

With the help of her "Brother Surveillance Tool," Sasami is able to view the outside world via her computer, theoretically allowing her to readjust to interacting with people once more. In reality, it reveals her brother's interactions with the three very odd Yagami sisters, whose looks and motives are deceiving, and have various types of interest in Kamiomi. That's when things start to get really weird...

Magical powers? Everything turning into chocolate? Has life via the web warped Sasami's brain, or is it the universe that's going crazy? It looks like Sasami will have to take off her pajamas and go out into the real world to set things straight!

Welcome to the first week of June's DVD and Blu-Ray releases! For this week, I'm interested the Attack on Titan limited edition, Henneko, and Amnesia Blu-Ray releases. I'm a big fan of Attack on Titan, but not so much for Henneko and Amnesia. Amnesia is a boring reverse harem show until you reached a particular route where it made it memorable for reverse harem shows. Henneko is a cute, generic harem show, but it has an amusing gimmick, the characters make a wish and give something away in exchange involuntarily. That what makes it an enjoyable show. Attack on Titan is one of the hyped up series with visceral action and animation.

I would love to hear your recommendations on these series. All comments are welcome. Thank you.

When they learn about a statue of a cat that can take away a single personality trait that you want to get rid of, they're both eager to try it out. However, what neither of them realizes until it's too late is that the cat doesn't just take the personality trait away from you, it gives it to somebody else! Now Koto can't keep himself from saying exactly what's on his mind, while Tsukiko has picked up a complete inability to display emotion! Welcome to this week's DVD and Blu-Ray releases! I'm only familiar with one series, Cuticle Detective Inaba, which is about hair not cuticles. I haven't watched it yet. I'm interested in Amazing Nuts (don't know why they named it that way) and Shangri-La. Shangri-La has the best cover I seen this month. From the plot, it reminds me of the Winds that Bring Amnesia except without the aliens and amnesia element.

I would love to hear your recommendations on these series. All comments are welcome. Thank you.

Welcome to the first week of April's DVD and Blu-Ray releases! I don't know any of this series this week except Dragon Ball Z. From first impressions, Ebiten and Happiness! fits the slice of life trope with cute girls and a bit of fan service at the side. The only series that caught my eye is Third: The Girl with the Blue Eye. I usually look for either shows with some action or good comedy.

I know someone who watches Ebiten. What's your two cents on Ebiten? And I know someone who had watched Princess Nine due to a review recently written. What's your take on Princess Nine? Would you recommend it?

I would love to hear your recommendations on these series. All comments are welcome. Thank you.

Welcome everyone! It's the 2nd week of February, and wow, time is flying fast. We have a small batch of releases full of adorable, little girls (MM! and Strike Witches) and one Shojo series (Kamisama Kiss). Personally, I haven't tried any of these shows. I would love to hear folks' recommendations on these anime series.

MM! is a harem series, and judging from the cover and synopsis, it's strange to see a masochistic male lead. I can't imagine loli girls abusing the lucky guy in this show. Strike Witches looks like Girls Und Panzer except rocket boots for feet. Kamisama Kiss reminds me of Spice and Wolf except it's a wolf guy not a fox lady. Forgive me, I'm a noob in anime.

Source: All summaries for the anime are from ANN's List of DVD/BD Releases.

MM! - Complete Collection (Blu-Ray)
  • Distributor: Sentai Filmworks
  • Suggested retail price: $69.98

There are twisted tales and twisted tails, but few are as twisted as poor Sado's, who's just realized that he LIKES being made miserable. Of course, knowing that only makes him more miserable, which in turn. Well, you get the idea. Desperate to break the perverse cycle, Sado volunteers for a special club where he hopes he can work through his issues. And though he probably should have expected as much, imagine his consternation when he discovers that the other members have equally. complex. issues to deal with. For example, the hyper-aggressive club president Isurugi not only has a violent fear of cats, but also believes herself to be a god! Then there's Yuno, who's terrified of men; the nurse who forces other people to perform cosplay; and Hayama, Sado's best friend and a compulsive cross-dresser, who's also the girl that Sado is infatuated with.

(We did say it was complex, remember?) If you think you've seen EVERYTHING that can happen in an anime, prepare to have your eyes opened to FULL anime size as you enter a whole new paradigm with MM! (it's pronounced "Emu Emu!")!

MM! - Complete Collection (DVD)

Kamisama Kiss - Complete Collection (BD+DVD)
  • Distributor: FUNimation Entertainment Suggested retail price: $54.98

Nanami was just a normal high school girl down on her luck until a stranger's lips marked her as the new Land God and turned her world upside down. Now, she's figuring out the duties of a deity with the help of Tomoe, a reformed fox demon who reluctantly becomes her familiar in a contract sealed with a kiss. The new responsibilities-and boys-are a lot to handle, like the crow demon masquerading as a gorgeous pop idol and the adorable snake spirit who's chosen the newly minted god to be his bride. As the headstrong Tomoe tries to whip her into shape, Nanami finds that love just might have cute, pointed fox ears. With romance in the air, will the human deity be able to prove herself worthy of her new title?

Welcome to this week's Quick Picks! We got just 2 titles this week, Blue Submarine No. 6 is a nostalgic one for me. I remember watching in middle school during the Toonami era. It's a good Sci-Fi series for new fans who love to see themes of war and environment. For Medaka Box, I would say would be the best one to give his 2 cents on it. I haven't watched it yet.

I hope you guys enjoy this week's releases.

Welcome to the Quick Picks! Hope you find something you like this week? I'm looking forward to Monster Rancher. It was a favorite series of mine when I was in middle school. It brings back some old memories. It was like Digimon more than Pokemon because humans and monsters die in this series underneath that childish exterior.

When Haruka gets the chance to take the entrance exam for Saotome Academy for the Performing Arts, it seems as though she's one step closer to her dream of composing songs for her favorite singer, Hayato. However, this is no gleeful high school musical experience, and Haruka's hiding a dreadful secret that may silence her musical ambitions forever.

Even if she does get into Saotome, the competition will be more brutal than going on Japan's Top Idol! That's because, as a writer, Haruka could be paired with any one of six radically different male singers. Will it be upbeat Otoya, serious Masato, flirtatious Ren, split-personality Natsuki, optimistic Syo, or the unapproachable Tokiya, who's rumored to be Hayato's brother?

Just to make things more complicated and awkward, writers and singers are expressly NOT allowed to get romantically involved! Can one girl and six handsome young men learn to make beautiful music together in a strictly platonic sense? They can if the oddball staff of Saotome, most of whom are current and former idols themselves, have anything to say about it!
