So Blood: The Last Vampire's live-action film adaptation is opening in Japan on May 29th, but apparently Twitch managed to sneak an early viewing in somehow and has reviewed the film. (For the record, there actually don't appear to be any major plot spoilers that we haven't already gotten wind of via trailers in the review.)
I know a lot of us are looking forward to the movie and are hoping that it'll finally be a global live-action anime/manga movie that we can be proud of, but Twitch doesn't seem to think that's the case, feeling that the film is choppy and rates style over substance.
That said, there must be some forgiveness there: those who are fans of the original Blood: The Last Vampire anime movie remember that while much of it was understated instead of overdone, it was not exactly the bastion of complexities, plot twists, and interpersonal relationships that the eventual followup TV series Blood+ was.
Do we have any readers who will be getting a chance to see the movie prior to its North American release (which we don't have a date for)? It'll be out in Japan on May 29th and in the UK and France this June, so if any Vice users are interested in going, give me a heads-up...we might be able to work something out. <3
