If you've been on the site (on the boards more specifically) yesterday afternoon, you may have noticed that we recently launched Forum Polls for you guys.
Hopefully, this should be a fun way to create discussion / debate around some interesting topics in the world of anime - (and of course, finally settle the timeless naruto vs. dragonball z argument)....
Use it, enjoy it! Big ups to Dave for some slick styling and UI enhancements late this afternoon :)
Hey everyone I'm back from a snowboarding trip to Lake Tahoe with the family. Man I love the snow. Anyway, I'll be working on Episode and Image Gallery stuff this week. There are some bugs and some usability issues in both of those places. Feel free to drop me comments on anything else you'd like to see fixed.
AnimeVice is on the Flight Deck and ready for action.
Hey folks: I've been reading up on people's questions and critiques and I spent some time changing and adding some things to the wiki area of the site. Some of the changes you might not notice, but they should help you more easily submit additions and edits to the wiki. Here's what I've done:
1. Episode Images:
When adding an episode, attaching an image is optional. On any Anime episode page, you can now upload more images specific to that episode... AND those images will also be attached to the series and the franchise.
You'll find this fix on the movie and also the manga's book page. You'll also prolly notice that the form for uploading the images ( on episode, book or movie ) is way simpler and doesn't ask you to create or attach the image to galleries. We dont really expect to have galleries at the Episode, Book or movie level. Galleries will mainly just stay at the Franchise level.
2. Cast and Credits
Some people wondered why we didn't show the Cast and Credis at the Series page ( we only had it at the individual episode level ). Well now you can see it on a series. Check out the Speed Racer series and scroll down to see Cast and Credit. But you still have to add the cast and credits at the episode page, same set up as on comicvine with comic book issues.
We have the concept of Anime Series and Movies here on AnimeVice. We also allow you to create a DVD and attach it to a series or a movie. When you do that it will also show up on the New Releases tab at the top of this page. This is a cool tool for us to catalog DVDs and when they will be release to the public.
4. Franchise Forums
Whether you are on a Series, Episode, Book, or Franchise page, you will always have that Franchise's forum posts at the bottom of the page.
I have tons of other small changes I'll be making too. Like adding mulitple publisher's to a Series or Manga, OR making the release date information more clear and usable.
We've been working hard to deal with bugs and site upgrades this week. Here are a couple things I fixed today!
1. Adding NEW Series is fixed in the moderation queue. All those awesome new Manga and Anime series you've submitted weren't making it through the moderation queue because we had a gnarly bug in the way we attached the Manga/Anime to a Franchise Now the mods are able to approve all your hard work.
2. Writing Reviews has gotten an update, now you can write a review on an 'overall' Anime Series or Manga Series... as well as being able to write a review of an individual episode or book. I also added "WRITE A REVIEW" buttons at the top of the Anime or Manga pages to make it clear.
3. The default image for character, people, etc etc is now clickable.
Man what a crazy couple of days. We had some serious issues with our servers today ( I think something may have actually caught fire ) -- still waiting to hear back from the server guys who are in Canada. Here are some fixes I pushed to AV recently.
1. Off-Topic, RPG and Battles forum topics are now hidden by default on the main www.animevice.com/forums/ page. Some of you made a good point that RPGs were taking over the main page of the forums and scaring people who wanted to talk anime away. So there you go. To add those topics back in or hide anyother ones, just click the "preferences" button when you are in the forums.
2. Character search box -- adding characters to episodes, movies, etc -- has been fixed.
3. Small fix... when copy-pasting a video from the animevice.com/videos/ page you'll get an officlal AnimeViceo watermark in the video now. W00t.
I have plenty more bugs/issues I have to deal with. Points and wiki stuff mainly, don't worry I'm on it.
I just got back from watcthing The Punisher. I'll write more about that late :P It's midnight here on the West Coast. I think the launch was a big success and I'm loving the community of people we're building over here. We've got 507 user profiles since yesterday, over 200 topics have been created, and we have a forum topic with over 1495 posts! Our image galleries are just brimming with cool shit too... over 7000 images have been submitted so far ( I think we launched with about 3500 images ).
I know of a bunch of bugs on the site -- like adding characters to movies/episodes/mangas dont work -- and hope to fix them this weekend. Sorry I have to watch a 2 year old and an 8 month old tomorrow while the wife takes a much needed break -- so I might not get to the bugs until Monday.
Anyway let me know what you think of AnimeVice so far...
Dudes! Thanks for dropping in on AnimeVice. Phew, we've finally launched, after nearly a year of talking about launching an anime site and about 2 months of actually building the site. We've been busy beavers here at Whiskey Media, what with launching 3 badass sites this year Comicvine.com, Giantbomb.com and now AnimeVice.com
As I type this Andy is sitting next to me mumbling about why image uploads are not working -- we're still setting up the servers! :P And Maxwell is on the other side of me making us a favicon.ico file that always seems to be done at the last minute anyway. Dave's a little farther away in his Member's Only jacket thinking about his trip to Austalia. And Coonce is really tall. ( Coonce just IM'd me and I quote "do you need help w/ anything specific?" That's how we roll. We IM each other even though we are in the same room.
Andy says image uploads work! Now it's time to break out the whiskey :)
We have a bad ass content team... big thanks go out to Tony, Gia, Drew, Maxwell
So I managed to catch an episode of Death Note on TV not too long ago and I became sort of fascinated by its premise. Not sure if I'll like it enough to stick with the whole series, but I threw it all in my Netflix queue anyway.
After that, I might check out Code Geass. That seemed kind of interesting, too.
If I'm gonna pick my favorite, it has to go back to my childhood. The first anime I watched religiously was Speed Racer. I don't know what it was about it but my brother and I were so into it. We were lucky to have a channel that showed old syndicated programs. My second favorite would be Battle of the Planets or better known as Gatchaman (or Science Ninja Team Gatchaman). Then my third is one I didn't get to see too often but liked it anyways, Mazinger Z.
