Howdy, users! I'm MattBodega, Whiskey Media's newest intern, part-ish time writer, and profession idiot. I'm hanging around the Whiskey Media offices for the summer, doing whatever spare chore they can conjure up for me. But when I'm not alphabetizing comic books or uploading video game trailers, I'll be on the board of Anime Vice and occasionally posting on the front page.

If my first news story is any indication, I'm a video game player, and a devoted one(It was my work on sister site GiantBomb that allowed me to get this internship at Whiskey!) My exposure and enjoyment of Anime comes from the influence the style has had in modern video games.  I'm a huge fan of games like Eternal Sonata, Tales of Vespiria, the Final Fantasy franchise, and Persona 4. I I'm also a huge fan of the Studio Ghibli films and more serious Anime such as Grave of the Fireflies.  If you want to talk about films that scream the majesty of the medium from the mountaintops, it's hard to go wrong with the works of Miyazaki or Grave of the Fireflies.

I'll be around the site, so if you have any questions, or you just want to berate me for writing the same news story twice, shoot me a PM! See you all around!

BECAUSE I AM A VICE FAIRY!

I loved that OH MY GAAAAH Sparta Remix so much, I had to make one of my own!  Why NOT run another vid up the flagpole of a seven year old meme?  It's new to me!

For my subject, I've chosen to edit a moment from episode five of my favorite comedy anime of all time, EXCEL SAGA!  NSFW alert: video includes a repeatedly screamed/sung swearword!

God I love this show.  Seriously, it's my favorite dub performance of all time.

I....I can't stop listening to this.  It's Nagato's version of the theme song from Haruhi's movie.  Which is already like the greatest song ever.  But Nagato's autotuned, emotionally vacant, electric guitarified version is LIKE MAYBE ACTUALLY THE BEST THING EVER.
I also love how the youtube comments compleatly devolve into "They used autotune cause she's a robot!"  "N00B SHES AN ALIEN"  "no shes a robot" "THE SHOW SAS SHES AN ALIEN!!!111"  "SHE'S AN INTEGRATED DATA LIFEFORM"

Dudes, dudes, can't we all just admit she's an alien robot and enjoy our lives?

This entire episode is golden (the whole SERIES is), but I have to say I'm really impressed with Kyon's wild take at 1:12.  Going beyond the spit take to an actual vomit take.  It's not as gross as it sounds - as with everything in this show, it's kind of adorable.   Does this happen in other animes?
As a big fan of the Haruhi dub cast, I'd LOVE to see an official English version of this show...too much to hope for?   Yen licensed the Haruhi-Chan manga,  why shouldn't Bandai use their awesome dub cast for this?  I'd buy a DVD of the whole collection in a second.

I can't even go to my friend's cousins independent hip hop show without getting a bunch of anime up in my face.

This was at San Francisco's Club Six, they were playing episodes of Dead Leaves on a big screen all night.  You probably can't tell what that is from this photo, but trust me, it was.  Now I have to watch it cause it looked so insane.  Dammit.

Reader: Nice to meet you Oda-sensei, I have a question. If One Piece was set in the real world, which countries would the nine Strawhats come from? (Pen Name:  MICHALE JACKSONS' BROTHER)

Oda: Well. I'll just put what fits with the character's image.

Luffy: Brazil
Zoro: Japan
Nami: Sweden
Usopp: Africa
Sanji: France
Chopper: Canada
Robin: Russia
Franky: USA
Brook: Austria

What Star Trek really needs is another reboot, but with these uniforms instead. Though they are NSFW, so you have been warned.

 Hey duders -

Been a busy the past week fixing bugs and whatnot - but in between all of that, I've been secretly rolling out some tweaks for a new feature that I'm personally excited for. I say that I'm personally excited for this feature because I confess, I'm not on our sites ALL the time -- so I wanted a quick way to be able discover new activity that my friends are creating without having to necessarily be ON the site. I wanted my activity feed to be able to come with me wherever I go. I wanted this feed in RSS.

Up until now, your friends activity feed was only available on the site:
How To Navigate To Your Friends Activity
How To Navigate To Your Friends Activity
And when you went there - it looked pretty awesome - like this:
My Followed Activity Feed (The Frustration Run is amazing...)
My Followed Activity Feed (The Frustration Run is amazing...)
That's all great and fine - but I wanted a more passive way to get notified when people I care about do things on our sites. RSS. I decided to try to write a more useful activity feed for me (and you) - to help us keep up with stuff that's happening on this great site of ours. So I built the RSS feed and pushed it last week. I've subscribed to it using my trusty RSS Reader NewsFire and I've been making tweaks over the past few days w/ Dave to whittle away spammy activity and to clean up the activity elements that we actually liked seeing in the feed.

Here what the feed looks like in my reader:
 NewsFire Activity View
 NewsFire Activity View

And here's what an individual activity item looks like:
 The Frustration Run Rocks!
 The Frustration Run Rocks!

Cool huh? So now whenever new stuff happens on the site, NewsFire will pull the new activity and I can check it whenever I like. So far, its been really useful and I've picked up a lot of stories, blogs, forum topics, etc. that would have normally passed me by.

A couple of quick notes. We ARE NOT displaying activity for a variety of activity elements that we deem un-important or spammy. So, you won't get Forum Posts activity in your feed, but you will get a new item when someone you follow Starts A New Topic.

Its still in beta, and its something I'll be working on -- so subscribe to your feed and give us some feedback. I'd love to hear what you like / dislike.

Your feed is at:

Love,
Coonce
