The young Gremmy of the Vandenreich has always been either locked away or given a wide birth by his compatriots. Never to be challenged or pushed to find the potential of his imagination. This clash with the titan known as Kenpachi will finally light the fire inside and the thirst for battle.

The Good

For as much as I wanted Yachiru to take on a full battle, I can't deny any longer that I'm enjoying this match-up. Kenpachi does seem to be the perfect enemy for Gremmy. Who better than such an impossibly overpowered maniac to let go of one's limitations -- and I am speaking of Kenpachi there? I was cold on this brawl up until Gremmy really started letting loose with his power here and began pulling an array of weapons out of his proverbial bag of trick. Watching Kenpachi fight someone so passive and disinterested would have been disappointing for the final arc.

Kenpachi is now facing someone equally as crazy as he is, and for oddly similar reasons. The only real difference is that our battle-loving captain had never been locked in a cage. Although, I bet many in the Soul Society argued for just that on numerous occasions.

The Bad

Okay, let's address the elephant in the room before we get too far into this. We all know, through the laws of shonen-action, that Kenpachi will win this fight. It's not that it's because he's on the side of the good guys. There's just no way that Kubo would have made such a big deal of Kenpachi's training only to have him fail his first time out. I don't even think we can expect a double K.O. It would completely diminish the effort and the sacrifice that came with it.

I'm not taking that truism too much to heart and let the enjoyment of this battle go to waste. This pattern has gone on for far too long for me to start getting upset about it at this point, and I'd hate for any of you to let it spoil this chapter either. This is still fun, and that's what's important. This is neither the series nor the character one comes to for deep drama.

Verdict 4/5

We've finally reached the point where all the bystanders are out of the way, and these two combatants are pretty much done feeling each other out. The battle is really starting. If this issue is a hint of the things to come, this should be one crazy show that I look forward to watching. The roll-up has been longer than I may have liked, but it will all be worth it if the conclusion is satisfying. No one can claim that this brawl doesn't have limitless potential.

Kenpachi tends to provide infinite entertainment in his battles. I still laugh at the time he took off his eyepatch and became 10 times more intimidating.
