See if you can find what VIZ is trying to hide in this summer's releases of BLEACH.

While I was updating many of the manga covers in the BLEACH series to the U.S. editions. I noticed a little touch in all the VIZ Media releases. There are two particular volumes where these two manga have an oh-so convenient placement of the title card that wasn't there in the original Japanese versions. Take a look at the images before and see if you can find the change.

BLEACH Vol. 42 JPN to US Comparison
BLEACH Vol. 42 JPN to US Comparison
BLEACH Vol. 46 JPN to US Comparison
BLEACH Vol. 46 JPN to US Comparison

As you can see, VIZ moved the BLEACH title to slightly cover the rather prominent breast for both Tier Halibel and Rangiku Matsumoto on BLEACH Vol. 42 and Vol. 46. It's just sort of a silly edit. As if we aren't going to suddenly notice they are there. I guess there is more of a case of Matsumoto's version. If they put it at the top, it would have covered her face. It's not really a big deal as long as the art inside isn't changed. I just thought it was kind of funny.

While we're on the topic, I'd love to ask why they don't keep the volume names on the covers. They do the same thing to NARUTO and ONE PIECE.

The publisher VIZ Media announces a release date for the forty-sixth and forty-seventh volumes of the BLEACH series and their cover images.

These volums cover the ever ongoing Fake Karakura Town Arc of Tite Kubo's BLEACH. It's rather shocking that VIZ has only published BLEACH this far when both ONE PIECE and NARUTO are far closer to their Japanese versions. They are currently releasing the BLEACH manga two volumes a month all through this summer. The release date for Vol. 46 & Vol. 47 is set for September 4, 2012, and are currently available on Amazon.com for preorder.

Bleach and Naruto are some of my favroite Manga series. Some characters have disapperaed so I'm wondering are they dead or what?

Grimmjow, Nel, Yamato, Hiyori it be nice to know if they're alive dead.

Now, my memory may be foggy and perhaps the series explained all of this in the early episodes that I saw 5+ years ago, but boy oh boy it seems to me like Karakura Town would be one of the worst places to live ever.

Wanton Destruction

Thanks Kageroza! I always thought my factory needed a massive hole in the roof.
Thanks Kageroza! I always thought my factory needed a massive hole in the roof.

Times are rough for the Karakura business owner. Being a small business owner is already hard enough. Taking out loans and incurring massive debt to follow their entrepreneurial dreams, the long hours and stress that comes from getting a business off the ground. Most business fail, but imagine actually growing one into a self-sustaining entity and the pride that comes from that. Now imagine coming in one morning to find that someone completely destroyed the building or did a Kageroza and Ichigo and decided your building was missing a massive hole in the roof and rectified the situation. Building/buying buildings isn't cheap. Having yours destroyed is likely going to be game over for most small business. How do you even convince people to start up companies when the town has a bad habit of having buildings falling apart all the down, craters randomly appearing throughout the city, and all the other things that result from the fighting, invisible fighting, that takes place in the city?

City-wide Memory/Time Loss

The citizens celebrate "Sleep in the Streets Day".
The citizens celebrate "Sleep in the Streets Day".
This one is specifically for the Decide Arc where the real Karakura Town was moved to Soul Society and a fake town brought in as a replacement. That's all fine and dandy for destruction, but what is going to happen when people wake up thinking that it's Wednesday only to find out that it's Thursday? How many citizens who commute outside of town to work got a no call, no show on their work record with absolutely no way to explain it? Think about how many phone calls come into a city everyday and the gamut of reasons behind them. For this one day, everyone in Karakura Town vanished from the face of the Earth. There was an important business meeting to finalize the merger of two companies? Karakura Town never showed up and wouldn't answer their phones. Someone was supposed to pick up or drop off their children with their ex? They never showed up. The government was competing with other towns to bring a business to their city? They just lost that contract.

Visitors and satellites were greeted with this bombed out view of the city.
Visitors and satellites were greeted with this bombed out view of the city.
And that's just phone calls and video chatting. What if someone actually tried to visit Karakura Town. What will they find? A city completely destroyed by explosions, building toppled, schools destroyed, banks obliterated, and apartments collasped? Or maybe their car or bus was destroyed when they were driving 60+ MPH on the highway and ran into an invisible force field surrounding the city. This would be it's own one day mini-crisis for the entire country as one city and its citizens essentially disappeared without a trace for an entire day.

Overall Weird S***

A slight vermin problem.
A slight vermin problem.
Even if we take away the destruction and odd memory loss, Karakura Town is a bizarre place to live. It's like some town in a horror movie that is flooded with paranormal activity yet the town is either oblivious to it or has taken the approach that if they never talk about it, then it doesn't actually exist and all is well. Numerous students at Ichigo's school have been possessed by ghosts or taken control of by paranormal artifacts. Some citizens have even been kidnapped and killed by these creatures yet the town moves on like nothing happened.

Blatant Drug Fronts, Child Labor Violations, and Possible Pedophilia

He may be selling pills, but I don't think they're candy.
He may be selling pills, but I don't think they're candy.
I can't confirm it but from first hand experience I have a strong suspicion that this guy is continually under the influence of marijuana and possibly designer drugs. His eyes are crazy low, he's always way too relaxed given the situation, and he runs a "candy store" that never seems to have customers yet has been in business for years. All of these are red flags for suspicious activity. Not to mention the young children that work at this so called "candy shop". Umm, child labor laws? These kids are like 11 years old. The boy seems to be well enough adjusted but the young girl is obviously suffering from some type of severe emotional trauma. Also, who are these kids? They obviously aren't Kisuke's and they aren't his partner's either. Additionally, are these kids even going to school? The more and more I look at it, the more and more it seems like some sort marijuana/designer drug pedo-cult.

Despite all of this, there hasn't been a mass exodus of people abandoning the city like Tokyo-3 from Evangelion. The citizens seem to be cheerful and happy to go about their day-to-day lives despite the huge risks that simply wouldn't exist if they moved elsewhere. So, what do you guys think? Are there other anime cities worst off than Karakura Town?

I've done a lot of updating on several franchise pages over the past few weeks. I've really polished off Highschool of the Dead and Black Lagoon franchise pages. As I was browsing through the unfinished wiki tasks in the list. I saw one open for BLEACH. Using my previous work as a template, I went through today and finished the BLEACH franchise page. I just gave all the wiki points to the users who were on the task already. It looks pretty good, and I think works as a template for other such series that began as a manga, became an anime, then branched to movies. I really should go back and retool my work on the One Piece franchise to match.

I really do find manga to be the most amazing thing ever.
You may think to yourself why, or why? isn't anime superior to manga? Is it not much cooler to see the stories you like animated?

Well allow me to rant about why i find manga so amazing for a little bit.
The short version would be this: Because manga has this magical ability to make absolutely anything, and i mean  anything interesting enough to actually care about.
I was never a big fan of sports, especially not american football. That is until i started reading Eyeshield 21. Seeing the main character evolve from a scared servant to those stronger then him type of character into one of the worlds best athletes was really something. And the manga even thought me the rules of american football in the progress, made me understand why people enjoy the sport in real life.

Recently i have been getting into this manga about climbing. Yes climbing, of all things. Sadly i lost its name and i cannot find it again but from what i read i was really motivated to see the main character climb a new challenge and see how much he enjoyed it, see how it changed the character as a person in a good way and how the others around him reacted to it.

You can take almost any topic, hobby, sport or any such thing and there will probably be a manga about it. In manga the hardworking people that draws and creates the story put real passion into showing their characters. You can feel the passion for what they wish for in the manga you read, you can relate to characters trough events or how they react trough different situations making you become closer to that character. Trough hard determination and will power you see your favorite characters overcome obstacles and grow trough their experiences.

Of course there are drama manga that can be really sad as well. I have found that some of these taught me a bit about myself as a person, who i sided with in the story and who i cared for in them refined myself as a person in a way. I will mention Saikano as one of thees. It is the saddest manga i have ever read, it made me cry several times, especially the ending.
Even though i would never find myself in a similar situation i felt for the characters as things got worse and worse in it. Another perhaps more well known manga like this would be Elfen Lied. Who is the real monster kind of story through and through, i still find the ending to be dumb but still.

As for why i prefer manga is because the mind, your mind makes the scenes that play out in front of you just like you want yourself. But then comes the anime and you are disappointed in one way or another. It could be anything from animation style, hair color to voice actor. It is rare i am 100% happy about an anime version of something i have read as a manga but it happens. One Piece is fairly true to its source material however there are some changes that are annoying and some voice actor choices did disappoint but most of it was spot on from what i imagined. However the fights were animated way better then the way i had imagined they would be so that is also a plus.

But overall i do still prefer the manga version of things, its paced the way you like it yourself, and well the manga usually have more attention to detail where anime has more attention to animation. I am by no means saying my opinion is the only one which matters, this is all just my opinion and i know people will disagree with me but this is just a little about why i like manga so much.

One thing i do love about anime though is how a character you have grown to like in a manga may be even further developed as the result of anime episodes that deals with things not in the manga, some people hate fillers like these but i enjoy them, seeing something that is not mentioned in the manga and such. Again there are exceptions, i dont feel Bleach handles fillers very well for example but i did enjoy the Zanpakuto arc where the swords all had personalities and all that. One of the biggest offenders of this is Katekyo Hitman Reborn, removing entire arcs and characters and pretend they dont exist.

Well that about wraps it up for now, just felt like writing about why i like manga so much. If anyone reads this feel free to comment or mention why you dont like manga, prefer anime, agree or disagree with me. Til next time good people :)

EDIT: As Tubutas was nice enough to tell me the manga about the climbing is named Kokou no Hito .
