One of the characters in Soul Eater. Blair is a cat with a strong aptitude for magic, which gets her confused as a witch.
Not much is known of Blair's origin, all that is known is that she has immense magical skills and has acquired them some way or another. This could have been inherited through her family or she could have had learned them throughout her life journey's. When we first learn that she is actually just a "cat with strong magical abilities," the way Blair words it makes most fans agree her strong affinity for magic is inherited and wasn't simply learned. While she may have learned a few tricks with her magic along the way, she always had the ability and affinity for the art.
The character of Blair is a supporting vharacter of the Soul Eater series created by Atsushi Ohkubo. The first chapter was published in Square Enix's Gangan Powered on June 24, 2003, and began regular monthly serialization in Square Enix's Monthly Shōnen Gangan manga magazine on May 12, 2004.
Her first appearance was in Soul Eater Volume 1 Prologue 1 "Soul Eater", and her first anime appearance was in Soul Eater - Episode 1 "Resonance of the Soul – Will Soul Eater Become a Death Scythe?". Her character in the Japanese series is voiced by Emiri Katou, and the U.S. dub produced by FUNimation is done by Leah Clark.
Blair appears in two different forms in the anime, though she could theoretically have many many more. Those two versions are her human form, which she takes the form of a traditional witch, and her true form of a black cat, which she still keeps her cliche black witch hat. While her true form is that of a cat, she is often seen in her human form because Blair is so comfortable with it, though she could really change into anything with her transformation magic.
Blair's cat form is quite simple yet still attractive to the audience's eye. Her color is a matte black, all over with no hint of any other colors. Her eyes take up the larger part of her face, being large and green in color. She keeps her cliche witch theme by keeping her witch hat in this form, though in a much smaller size to fit her cat head. Her tail is also very long and curly at the bottom, making for a look that can distinguish her from a normal feline. Other than that, she appears to be a normal cat, with even possibly a smaller than normal size body.
Her hat is described as jet black, with a grey "belt" around the base of the cone. She also has a small collar that goes around her neck, and a small silver amulet that hangs down from it. Another feature that you catch on her face often is two pink ovals on either cheek. This is possibly added for more visual attraction, and to show the playful nature of Blair.
Blair's human form is quite different from that of her true form, though it has similarities that can keep her attached to the theme. One of the first and most striking features of her character, is her bright almost light purple color hair. Not only is the color fun, but the style is two. Her hair is pulled into two separate ways with curly ends at each, mocking the end of her tail in her true form.
The next thing you notice would be her attire. While it follows the cliche of the witch, it also looks very flattering on Blair. The sleeves are long and black, and are often drawn to be much to long for her arms. The top of the piece is tight against her breasts, and the skirt at the bottom is fluffy and easily pops around as she moves. Her shoes are also curly at the end, not only mocking her tail but the old theme of witches wearing shoes of the same type. Of course, the cliche takes over when her entire piece is matte black, including her witch hat.
If you look closer at her, you will begin to notice that even though her magic is strong, her cat features can be very recognizable and outstanding even to the naked eye. Firstly, her mouth will often curve up into what is usually drawn as a mouth, making her appear to have a muzzle and small whiskers. She also has very large eyes, another trait that is not only common in cats but is also very dominant in her true form. What is interesting is that although she appears to be a smaller sized cat, Blair could easily be considered on the taller side for women.
Blair, out of all the characters in Soul Eater, is easily the most easy going. She doesn't have a care in the world, and does what she wants when she wants it. She sort of has total control over her life, which is a good thing, but it often runs over into others. One of the most striking features of her character is her playful nature. We can attribute this to the fact that she is a cat in her true form, and cats in general are very playful in nature. She doesn't seem to be worried much about anything, and you can tell she enjoys fun and action because she gets bored very easily. Curiosity also plays a big part in her personality, as cats again are naturally curious, so is she, as we see in episode one.
Blair does, however, have a more mischievous and dark side. We see this when she begins to assault Maka and Soul because she wants Soul to follow her around and be her friend. She doesn't hesitate to attack the two, and doesn't seem to care that they are younger or not. Also, when she is battling others she doesn't care to play dirty, or attempt to overwhelm them with her pumpkin army. She sees life as a game in sorts, and still has the base reactions of a cat in personality. If she doesn't like something, she can and will attack it. But, most of her time is spent playing games and getting the thrill of the chase.
When the single drama CD was released in August of 2005, Blair appeared and was voiced by Yuko Sasamoto. While this is the first time that Blair appeared in the Soul Eater franchise that wasn't manga, it isn't considered her first anime appearance since the CD wasn't an anime.
