Black Jack

Black Jack is an anime and manga franchise whose story revolves around the titular doctor. Having gone underground after having his medical license revoked, Black Jack travels around the world to perform various surgeries for those who need them. Because he is especially famous for expertise, he often charges exorbant sums of money for his services. However, due to a complex moral code which is influenced by the circumstances he is operating under, he sometimes also provides medical attention free of charge. This is often influenced by the patients' character. Because Osamu Tezuka, the author of the original works, had a medical degree, many of the tales are drawn upon the experiences he encountered while he was being taught the ins and outs of a doctor's work.
