A young boy is dragged into playing on his high school's baseball team as their pitcher, even though he thinks he is a horrible pitcher.
Big Windup! is the story of Ren Mihashi, a boy with low esteem who just happens to be a great pitcher. On his previous team, he was their ace pitcher, but was sadly bullied and generally hated by the rest of the team, leaving him with a staggering lack of confidence and self-esteem.
When he transfers to Nishiura High School, he plans to give up the sport. However, forced onto the baseball team by his coach, Ren soon learns how to trust in others, as well as himself, and how to give the game all he's got. With the aid of his team mates, his coach, and his friends, Ren sets out to discover his pitch, as well as himself.
