A powerful immortal who serves as the major antagonist of 3x3 Eyes for much of the series. Benares follows Kaiyanwang.
Benares is the immortal servant and protector of 3x3 Eyes chief antagonist, Kaiyanwang. As a "Wu", his life force is linked to that of his master, so that if his master dies he will as well. While this is an obvious incentive for Benares to protect Kaiyanwang, he also seems to be genuinely loyal to him.
Benares first enters the series in conflict with Yakumo and Pai for the Statue of Humanity, which they seek to gain humanity, while Benares wants it to aid him in reviving Kaiyanwang, who has been imprisoned and sealed in the Sanjiyan Holy Land. Hoping to use Pai's energy to restore his deteriorating master, he also aims to subdue her without killing her.
While Benares and Yakumo are both "Wu" and thus immortal, there is a great difference in power between them. Before meeting Pai, Yakumo was a normal human being whereas Benares was both a dragon-taken human form and a powerful sorceror. Despite this gap in power, Benares comes to regard Yakumo as his greatest rival.
