I missed this myself, but SciFi Wire has the scoop...if you can call it that. James Cameron, who has been talking about doing a Battle Angel Alita movie for years, now says that it "might be next for him after the release of Avatar in December."

Well...that's not as definite as we would have liked, I bet. This is a cute quote, though:
"I have other projects as well, so it's [a question of] how much appetite am I going to have for another big effects movie when I finish this one," he explained. "But you know, it's not a good time to ask a woman if she wants to have other kids when she's crowning."
The short of it is that he hasn't really decided what he'll do next, and Alita is just one of several possibilities. Which isn't what Alita fans want to hear, I'm sure, especially since we've been waiting so long...but at least we know the project hasn't fallen off the face of the earth.

I know the chances are small but, oh god yes please do it. I don't care what part of the story is done, thought I would like the motor ball arc done. PLZ

I've been waiting for this for years. And I'm not about to hold my breath again. Last time, about 3 years ago, someone was rumour to be working on a ALITA game, but it turn out to be a different franchises. (In the future I hope to get better Alita pic and get its vice wiki filled out)

Everything James Cameron learned while producing Avatar will likely be used in creating Battle Angel ...sometime before 2032, I believe. At the very least, I think a Battle Angel pic will be a more streamlined effort---in James Cameron terms---than Avatar is turning out to be.

Of course, all this will be moot, if Avatar ends up being a massive, expensive flop.
