Word over at ICv2 is that a second volume of Bat-Manga: The Secret History of Batman in Japan is in the works. if you missed the first volume, it was released in October of 2008 and featured strips from a Japanese manga strip created back in 1966 (while the live-action TV series was so popular), as well as some photos of Japanese Batman toys.

Apparently it sold enough copies that compiler Chip Kidd is going to put together a second volume, although there's no word on when-- in fact, it's basically a "verbal nod" for now, so we'll see how it goes.

Some of you may also remember that there was a bit of a kerfluffle in the blogiverse regarding the first volume: it consisted largely of the Batman strips, but did not feature the original creator, Jiro Kuwata, in the credits on the cover. It'll be interesting to see if he changes things in this second volume.

I grew up watching the 90's batman cartoon like everyone, but i will never understand why people like this character.

The first thing I thought when I saw the headline was "Maybe this time they'll credit that guy."

I love batman and manga but it seems that most of the time when americans do story like this it sucks since they dont let it become fully a part of the differnt media. it still feels a lot like american comic at the end of the day. I am looking foward to seeing the Iron man and Wolverine anime soon though. They both look good. Maybe Dc should pay attention to Marvel a little more.

Taking western content and making it Eastern style will never work and vice versa

@Son_of_Manus: I haven't actually read this particular collection, but Kia Asamiya (Martian Successor Nadesico, Silent Mobius) did a Batman manga called Batman: The Child of Dreams that is very well-regarded in both Japan and the US.
