Azumanga Daioh creator Kiyohiko Azuma is going to create three new Azumanga Daioh chapters for a new monthly magazine from Shogakukan titled Gessan. Given the term “chapters,” I'm assuming that they're full story-style chapters, like the omake in the manga's collections, as opposed to the 4koma comic strips that comprise the majority of the manga.

Don't get too excited about a US release too soon: Azumanga Daioh wasn't originally published by Shogakukan; that was MediaWorks. The move is said not to be relating to any disagreements, as apparently MediaWorks declined the project before it was offered to Shogakukan. Which sounds like a bad business decision, but oh well.
