The princess of the fire nation, she is a bully to all those around her, a true monster.
Azula was the second child of Crown Prince Ozai and Ursa, the younger sister to Zuko and niece to Iroh. Growing up in the Fire Nation Capital, she spent most of her days with her best friends Mai and Ty Lee. While Zuko was close to his mother, Azula was closer to her father as she adopted several of his traits. A passionate and fierce firebender, she found that her fire comes blue due to her powers as she constantly shows off in front of her brother and grandfather, Azulon. When Ozai pushes to be the next Fire Lord, Ursa takes action that causes her banishment, leaving Azula alone with her brother and father. Some time later, when Zuko spoke out of turn during a war meeting, he was challenged to Agni Kai where he fought his father. Azula looked overjoyed to see this happen, especially as her uncle and brother were banished from the kingdom on a wild hunt: to find the missing Avatar.
Azula is an antagonist in the Avatar series created by Bryan Konietzko and Michael Dante DiMartino. Avatar: The Last Airbender first began airing on February 21, 2005 on Nickelodeon. She would not appear in the story until the end of the first season in March 2006.
Her first appearance was in Avatar: The Last Airbender - Episode 12 "The Storm", and her first comic appearance was in Avatar: The Last Airbender - The Lost Adventures Book 2 CH. 8 "Going Home Again". Her character is voiced by Grey Delisle, and the Japanese dub is performed by Mayuko Gomi.
"Well what choice do I have? Trust is for fools! Fear is the only reliable way. Even you fear me."
Azula - Avatar: The Last Airbender Ep. 60
Princess Azula is the 15 year old daughter of Fire Lord Ozai (then Prince Ozai) and Princess Ursa, and one of the primary antagonists of the series. Azula is a very accomplished firebender which is complimented by her agility and athletic nature. Her hair is black, which she wears tied up into a small bun with two bangs coming down each side of her face. Throughout the series she is seen predominantly wearing the Fire Nations officer attire.
Azula was mainly brought up by her father, which had dramatic side effects for her later on in life, and due to these circumstances she always strives for perfection in her fathers presence. She was shown to have little empathy for everyone around her and care little about the feelings of others, this was shown when she displayed little remorse for the loss of her cousin and grandfather, and showed a very malicious grin when she witnessed her father permanently scar her brother Zuko in an Agni Kai. She is generally shown to be cold hearted and void of all emotion, but at times she can show compassion and open up to people about her feelings, this is very rare however. Her constant search for power could be seen through her trademark blue flames, and due to her lack of emotion and generally being calm she excels at Lightning Bending, making her a very formidable opponent in combat.
She has two close friends called Ty Lee and Mai, whom she met at the Royal Fire Academy for Girls. She seems to respect them to a degree but can be very aggressive towards them and tends to manipulate them should they disagree with her. Towards the end of the series Azula slowly starts to show signs of an unstable mentality, most likely due to her upbringing. The first signs of this can be seen during the events that transpired at The Boiling Rock. When Mai and Ty Lee betrayed her to let Zuko, Sokka, and Suki escape, to which she became so enraged that she ordered the guards to lock them up and "let them rot". From this point on her mental stability would continue to decline as she slipped further into insanity.
Another instance is during the attack on the Western Air Temple. Her attacks towards Zuko became much more aggressive and she displayed an intent to kill, showing that her mental health was declining. She suffers a complete mental breakdown in the events following up to her coronation as Fire Lord due to her fathers new title as "Phoenix King Ozai", in which she starts to banish her subjects for petty of fences and became heavily paranoid to the point where destroyed her trademark bangs and began to see visions of her mother Ursa. It was these visions that pushed her further into insanity and during her final showdown with her brother and Katara, she constantly provoked them into attacking her.
After her defeat at the hands of Katara and Zuko, she suffered a complete mental breakdown in which she screamed, cried, and breathed fire uncontrollably. After the coronation of her brother as Fire Lord she was admitted to a mental health facility where she was monitored and observed for what is believed to be the remaining duration of her life.
After Admiral Zhao's failed siege of the Nothern Water Tribe, and how Iroh and Zuko had betrayed the Fire Nation, Fire Lord Ozai summons his daughter Azula, into his throne room. Azula is seen kneeling before his throne while he comments that both Zuko and Iroh are failures, then he charges her to find and capture them.
After Fire Lord Ozai branded Zuko and Iroh tratiors to the Fire Nation, Azula obeyed her father's command to capture them and bring them back to the Fire Nation. While searching for their whereabouts, she was perfecting her ability to bend lightning with the aid of her advisers, Lo and Li. Azula eventually found Zuko and Iroh in a village resort on the Su Oku River and attempted to capture them both by telling Zuko that Fire Lord Ozai wishes him to return home and that he will be greated with open arms. Zuko believed his sister, but Iroh was sceptical about Azula’s intentions.
When Zuko was about to board Azula's ship, Iroh accompanied him but remained cautious. Azula’s plan soon unravelled when the captain of the ship accidentally referred to Zuko and Iroh as prisoners, Zuko became enraged by this deception and began dueling Azula. She easily evaded his attacks and struck back with her taunts and low level attacks. She almost managed to fire a bolt of lightning at him in an attempt to finish him off; however, Iroh intercepted the attack and redirected the lightning toward a nearby cliff, hurled her off her ship, and proceeded to flee from the resort with Zuko. Soon after this, Azula threatened the local villagers with cruel punishments from the Fire Lord should anyone of them harbor the traitors.
Lo and Li advised Azula that traveling with the Royal Procession was not a wise choice, she agreed and decided to abandon the unit, opting to find and recruit her two childhood friends, Ty Lee and Mai. Ty Lee was reluctant to join her due to her life at the circus, but, after some convincing from Azula she joined her on the quest. Unlike Ty Lee Mai was willing to leave the boredom of the newly conquered city of Omashu in favor of joining Azula and Ty Lee on their journey.
Whilst in Omashu, Azula met with Mai's father to discuss matters of the city and berated him for his failure at his task of governing the city. She then renamed Omashu as the city of New Ozai to honor her father.
It was inside the city that Azula first encountered Aang. She and her new allies were almost able to defeat Aang and his friends, but thanks to King Bumi Team Avatar managed to escape the city before they were captured. Soon after the battle, she left the city where she now named the Avatar as a personal target of hers, in addition to re-capturing her brother and uncle.
Princess Azula, Ty Lee, and Mai pursued Team Avatar, using a highly advanced Fire Nation tank and three mongoose dragons as mounts to pursue them night and day without rest. They briefly fought one another before Aang and his team managed to escape, but once again Azula, Ty Lee, and Mai followed them. Soon after this Azula uncovered Aang's deception to lead the them off course by flying in the opposite direction with a bag filled with Appa’s fur, thereby leaving a breadcrumb trail to throw them off. She decided it would be best for them to split up and head the opposite directions as to catch all of them team. Azula followed the trail left by Aang to its end and encountered the Avatar in an abandoned town and prepared to engage him, however, she was interrupted by her brother Zuko who had tracked the both of them himself and planned to capture Aang for his own gain. Azula fought the two of them and despite the fact that most of their attacks were directed towards her, she prevailed in the fight and easily knocked out Zuko and then went on to trap Aang beneath some rubble.
However just when she was about to claim victory, Katara, Sokka and Toph showed up to rescue Aang, while Iroh arrived to help Zuko. Cornered by them all, she said she would be willing to surrender. But Azula took advantage of Iroh being off guard for just a second and seriously wounded him in the chest with a bolt of blue fire. She was able to escape as the remaining members of the team attacked her.
Azula appeared again when she and her team was present at the siege of Ba Sing Se, where she was overseeing the War Ministers efforts to use the giant drill to break through the Outer Wall of the city. When the engineers reported an accident involving an ambushed engineer, stolen drill schematics and sabotage of the drills frame, Azula realized it was the work of Team Avatar.
Upon finding Team Avatar attempting to break the Drills metal braces with precision water bending, Azula forced Aang and his companions to flee. She sent Mai and Ty Lee after Katara and Sokka while she pursued Aang. She caught up with Aang and found him trying to bore a hole at the top of the drill with his airbending. They began a battle and her firebending was clearly overwhelmed Aang to the point of defeat, but he continued to fight regardless as the Giant Drill continued to its way through the wall of Ba Sing Se. The fight continued for a while until both were nearly thrown off the drill due to the Slurry Pipes bursting as a side effect of the fight between Katara and Ty Lee.
Using this moment Aang forced the Giant Drills metal braces to buckle, by forcing a nail like rock into the top of the drill which caused the drill to colapse. Azula tried to stop him before he had the chance, but Aang was faster and by the time she had recovered from the burst pipes exploding and knocking her off the side of the drill, he was already on his way down the wall to destroy the drill. Azula tried one final attack with her flames, but it was too slow. Aang's powerful impact on the earthen nail destroyed the drill and knocked Azula away, which marked the Fire Nation's defeat at Ba Sing Se.
Following the failed siege at Ba Sing Se, Azula began hunting for Appa, the Avatar's flying bison, following Appa’s trail of fur. When the princess and her companions finally came across the bison, he was in a forest clearing being tended to by the Kyoshi Warriors. After a claiming that the Kyoshi Warriors were nothing more than the Avatars "fan girls", Azula and her friends initiated a fight with them. Azula engaged Suki in a one-on-one battle and managed to disarm and and put her on the ground with a swift kick, however Azula was distracted by another Kyoshi Warrior and turned to fight her instead. By the time she returned to continue her battle with Suki and claim Appa, Suki had already driven Appa off with a flaming branch. Azula began to tease her again, before initiating another battle with her, but the remainder of the fight was off screen.
It’s discovered that The Kyoshi Warriors lost to Azula in the battle, and that Azula and her team stole some of their attire and disguised themselves as Kyoshi Warriors to deceive the Earth King and infiltrate the city of Ba Sing Se as his guards.
Shortly after infiltrating the city, the Earth King revealed that he was having a trouble with Long Feng and the Dai Li due to their plan to take over the city. Azula found these new turn of events ironic but she suddenly became concerned when the Earth Kind revealed the plan to invade the Fire Nation on the day of a solar eclipse. Azula was shocked by this information and started to consider what should be done to counter this invasion plan.
Afterwards, she was telling Ty Lee and Mai that she planned to take control of the Dai Li and start a coup, effectively bringing down Ba Sing Se from within. She came up with a plan to inform the Dai Li of the nature of their presence in the city and this news managed to reach the ears of the leader of the Dai Li, Long Feng. Azula was then taken in the middle of the night by Dai Li agents to Long Feng, who managed to strike a deal with her, in that he gave her complete control of the Dai Li to overthrow the government of Ba Sing Se and in exchange he got the Avatar.
Katara soon learned that Zuko and Iroh were in the city and approached Azula, who she thought to be Suki due to her disguise, informing her of Zuko and Iroh’s presence in the city. Azula revealed herself to Katara, and before she could warn anyone, Ty Lee took Katara down with her chi-blocking. Azula proceeded to lock her in the crystal catacombs beneath the city and have what she called a “family reunion” by sending a letter to Iroh and Zuko at their new Tea Shop inside the city walls, telling them that the Earth King wished for them to serve him tea. Near the beginning of coup, the pair fell into her trap and became surrounded by Dai Li agents. Iroh managed to use a smokescreen and help them escape palace by showing why he was called the “Dragon of the West”.
Zuko chose to stay behind to face Azula by challenging her to an Agni Kai. But Azula turned him down and he was taken down by the Dai Li. He was then thrown into the same dungeon in the crystal catacombs as Katara.
Azula then began her coup upon the city, in which the Dai Li arrested the Council of Five, the Earth King's highest ranking generals, while she captured the Earth King. Sokka and Toph were also arrested while attempting to warn the Earth King of the deception brought about by Azula.
Azula sent them off to a separate dungeon than the one that contained her brother and Katara. Immediately afterwards, Long Feng arrived on the scene and tried to betray Azula by ordering the Dai Li to arrest Azula, and in response to this betrayal she began to explain to him that the Dai Li were so impressed by her that they didn’t know who to follow anymore. She denounced him infront of the Dai Li for his lack of the divine right to rule, something she possessed. She ended the conversation by commanding Long Feng to bow before her because he could not hope to compete with somebody who was born to rule. He reluctantly obliged to her wishes, stating that she had beaten him at his own game.
Azula arrived in the Catacombs' prison cell just after Aang and Iroh found Katara and Zuko. Iroh had sent Aang and Katara to find Sokka and Toph while he remained behind for a moment with Zuko. Once alone with Zuko, he tried to persuade him to follow his lead and choose good over evil. However, Azula ordered the Dai Li to immobilize Iroh, she then started to poison Zuko's mind by claiming that their father would restore his honor and that she needed his help.
Azula then left Zuko to think it over while she went to battle Katara and Aang. The beginning of the battle with Aang and Katara was not going in her favor, as her attacks could not break through their defense and she was surrounded on both sides by the pair. Just when it seemed that she might lose to the Avatar and Katara, Zuko arrived and after a moment of consideration, chose to attack the Avatar. A long battle ensued and Azula attacked Katara, but she managed to immobilize Azula’s arm and leg in water. Azula was saved by Zuko's intervention and then went off to fight the Avatar instead. After disabling Aang, she then went to assist her brother against Katara. Together, she and Zuko easily overwhelmed her. The Dai Li joined ensuing battle within a few moments and Azula and her brother appeared to be unstoppable by this point.
Aang closed himself off in a cage of crystal that had been growing in the surrounding area, And encasing himself in the crystal bought him enough time to enter the Avatar State to try and end the battle. Azula however managed to strike Aang in the back with a fatal shot of Lightning. blocking off his access to the Avatar State before he could unleash his assault upon them and almost ending the Avatar Cycle completely if not for Katara's healing by using the spirit water from the north pole to heal Aangs wound.
With the Avatar was unable to continue the fight, and Azula and Zuko the victors of the battle, they began to approach the fallen Avatar and Katara, but they were blocked off by the arrival of Iroh. He temporarily held off Azula, Zuko and the Dai Li, while Katara escaped with Aang allowing himself to be captured once they had made their escape. In the throne room of the Earth King, Azula assured Zuko that he will have restored his honor by joining her, and that Iroh had been the one who had betrayed him, not the other way around.
With Zuko's honor restored to him, Azula claimed that after one hundred years of war, she and Zuko had finally conquered the city of Ba Sing Se in the name of the Fire Nation, and their father, Fire Lord Ozai.
After Ba Sing Se fell to the Fire Nation, Azula had made arrangements for her and her brother Zuko, to return home to the fire nation. She passed on the rule of Ba Sing Se over to Joo Dee, whom she deemed perfect for the position.
Zuko initially refused to return home and opted to remain in Ba Sing Se instead, but Azula hatched a plan and enlisted Ty Lee’s help in order to set up Mai and Zuko on a Fire Nation themed date. The ruse was quickly uncovered when Zuko overheard Ty Lee and Azula giggling in the nearby bushes near where they were eating dinner.
The following day as they were boarding the ships to return home, Azula noticed Zuko and Mai talking to one another affectionately and concluded that her plan had worked, which was confirmed when she bid farewell to Zuko and he had a change of heart and decided to return with them after all. She replied to him in a sly tone telling him that it was his decision after all and that he should do what he wanted.
When they finally returned to the shores of the Fire Nation they were greated and welcomed back with open arms by the people of the fire nation who praised their success at taking Ba Sing Se for the Fire Nation. Later on that evening Azula conversed with Zuko near a small pond on their estate about their upcoming meeting with their father. Zuko was anxious about meeting him again after so long but was also that he had to return home without the Avatar. Azula shrugged the comment off claiming that the debt was repaid given the Avatar was now dead. Zuko was reluctant to agree with her which prompted her to ask him if he thought the Avatar somehow survived. He agreed with her that Aang must have died back then but she disregarded it anyway and walked away from him.
Later that night, Zuko entered Azulas bed chambers and questioned her as to why she had told their Father that he was the one who had killed the Avatar. She told him that she could see how worried he was about coming home without the Avatar and she decided to give him the credit for it in thanks for his help in Ba Sing Se. Zuko refused to believe her explanation, claiming she must have had an ulterior motive She went on to say that she would gain nothing from letting him have all the glory of killing the Avatar, but also pointed out that should the Avatar turn out to be alive, all that glory would turn to shame. But she reassured him that he had nothing to worry about as Zuko himself admitted that there was no way the Avatar survived.
While Zuko and Mai were on a romantic picnic together she interrupted them and asked to speak with Zuko privately. Mai went off when Azula told her that Ty Lee needed help with her Braid. When they were alone Azula told Zuko she knew of his visits to their Uncle in prison, and told him that he should be careful as such actions could arouse suspicion with the civilians.
The group travelled to Ember Island for a vacation while Fire Lord Ozai conferred with his advisors. Azula saw this as an advantage to experience life as a normal person and chose to keep her and Zukos identities secret from the people on the island. While at the Beach, Mai and Ty Lee received some attention from two boys, Chan and his friend Ruon-Jian. Chan decided to invite them to a party at his house later, at which point Azula interrupted the conversation and said that herself and Zuko should be invited too, to which he reluctantly agreed.
Soon after they had arrived at the party Azula confided in Ty Lee and asked her for help on talking to boys. After a short lesson she asked Chan to give her a tour of the house. When he led her out onto the balcony he made a few jokes, which she laughed at, Chan then moved in and kissed her and called her pretty. She then went on to claim they would become the strongest couple on the earth and that they would rule it together, with a small display of her signature blue flames. Chan, startled by this, made an excuse to leave her, and after he had left Azula became disappointed.
The group retired to the beach and shared personal stories of their lives. When it was Azula’s turn to share her experiences, she said that she did not have any “Sob stories”. She did admit however, that she was aware that her mother loved Zuko more than her and that she thought Azula was a monster in comparison. After a short moment of silence she confirmed that her mother was correct, but it still hurt her. After this short bonding session, the group then decided to return to the party and trash Chan’s home.
Soon after they returned to the Fire Nation Azula was summoned along with high ranking military officials to an all-day war meeting. At this meeting, it’s later revealed that she is the one who suggest that the Fire Kingdom burn the Earth Kingdom to ashes using the power of Sozin’s Comet to achieve this. Ozai was very happy with this plan and adopted it as the method to use the Comet to its fullest power and end the war.
As the solar eclipse began, Aang, Toph and Sokka managed to locate the underground bunker used by the Fire Lord, and break into his chamber. To their surprise they were confronted by Azula, who said she was aware of the invasion for months and that she has amply prepared to deal with the attackers, at which point she summoned two Dai Li Agents she brought back from Ba Sing Se to dispatch them while she ran. Once they had caught up with here Sokka realized that she was only wasting their time in order to last out the eclipse, and as they turned to leave and search for Ozai, she taunted Sokka by saying that Suki had all but given up hope of him every coming for free her from imprisonment. A Rage filled Sokka attacked her out of blind rage to which she went to retaliate with a shuriken, this was sensed by Toph who then pinned her up against the wall. Sokka questioned her as to Suki’s whereabouts while she remained completely silent.
As the eclipse ended, she freed herself from the restraints and told the group the exact location of Ozai in the bunker before making a quick escape herself.
Azula, along with Ty Lee and Mai arrived at the Boiling Rock, A prison deep in the heart of the Fire Nation for its worst criminals. Azula interrupted an interrogation lead by the warden on a guard suspected of a failed prison escape attempt. She had her own idea that the escape was attempted by Team Avatar.
She along with Ty Lee did battle with Sokka, Suki and Zuko on the prison gondolas. While Ty Lee fought with Suki, she did battle with Zuko and Sokka. The battle ended in a draw, when she jumped to the opposite gondola along with Ty Lee as the guards cut the lines in order to drop the escapees into the boiling hot water below. This was a short lived victory however as Mai betrayed her and assisted in Zuko’s escape by defeating the guards attempting to cut the lines.
Azula told her she should not have tried to save him as now she would have to suffer the consequences for her actions. Mai then told her that he now realised that she loved Zuko more than she feared Azula. This remark sent Azula over the edge and she went to strike Mai down with an attack. This was thwarted quickly by Ty Lee who quickly paralysed Azula with Chi Blocking.
Azula, completely shocked by this betrayal ordered the guard to lock them up and “let them rot”.
After the events at Boiling Rock, Azula managed to track Zuko and Team Avatar to the Western Air Temple. She came with the intent of killing them all, and brought a full fleet of airships with her. Zuko bought time for the others to escape as he went to battle Azula on top of an airship. The battle between them was equally matched until a final connection of fists caused an explosion that knocked both of them from the airship. Zuko was saved by Appa and the rest of Team Avatar, while Azula used her fire bending to propel herself to safety and used her hairpin to latch to the side of a cliff.
Azula was present at her father’s new coronation when he became the newly appointed “Phoenix King Ozai”, after this event he appointed Azula the new Fire Lord in order to appease her and keep from coming with him to the Earth Kingdom.
Azula was somewhat annoyed by her father not wanting her there with him, and so began her slow decent into complete madness. She began to banish her subjects out of fear for her safety and paranoia. When one servant accidently left a pip in one of her cherries, she saw this as an attempt on her life and banished her.
She also went on to banish her Imperial fire bending Guard as she deemed them a potential threat to her safety because of their potential to betray her, and also went on to banish the Dai Li for taking 5 minutes to arrive when she summoned them.
Lo and Li, two of her advisors confronted her on her mental wellbeing and questioned all the events that had been occurring. She became enraged by this and ordered them to battle and Agni Kai, and when they both refused to do this as neither was a fire bender she banished them.
In an attempt to fix her own hair after banishing all her subjects, she cut off a large portion which left it misshapen and her trademark bangs in disarray. At this point she began to have hallucanations of her mother in a mirror. In these hallucinations her mother was concerned for her and went on to tell her that she loved Azula deeply. Azula, in a fit of emotional rage, threw a hairbrush at the mirror ending the hallucination and fell to her knees in tears.
Just before her official coronation to become fire lord, she was interrupted by Zuko and Katara, who had left the main army in the Earth Kingdom to confront her. When Zuko proclaimed that he will become the Fire Lord and not her, she challenged him to an Agni Kai to which he accepted.
Both under the influence of Sozin’s Comet and with Zukos new fire bending training were evenly matched in a display of incredible fire bending. During the Angi Kai, Azula was slowly becoming insane, which eventually culminated in her being struck down by Zuko. Zuko saw how furious she was by this and taunted her into attacking him with Lightning, Azula took the bait and went to strike him down with her Lightning bending, but at the last second she altered her aim in Kataras direction instead of Zuko’s to which Zuko jumped in front of the bolt and tried to redirect it into the air. While he succeeded in doing so a good portion of the lighting entered his body and caused him harm and left him unable to continue the fight.
Azula then began to move against Katara, who was distraught at seeing the state Zuko was in. Azula did her best to keep Katara away from any sources of water while taunting her at the same time. Katara eventually immobilized her inside a block of ice from water in a nearby underground canal. Katara took this opportunity to chain her to a metal grate and then went to heal Zuko’s wounds.
As Zuko stood up after receiving healing from Katara, Azula became completely enraged and broke down, breathing fire uncontrollable while crying and screaming, A complete polar opposite to her usual self.
With this, she had a complete mental breakdown and finally slipped into her own insanity. After the war ended, Azula was transferred to a mental health facility where she was monitored around the clock.
(This will be filled in fully when the comics are released, sometime in 2013)
Azula was one of the most skilled firebenders of her time. So much so that she was revered as a prodigy by her own father Fire Lord Ozai.
Her firebending was also characteristic given her firebending generated blue flames rather than the much more comon orange flames all other firebenders used. The flames she produced were much more intense than standard firebending flames, and her skill with them was very great indeed.
She was able to manipulate the flames into jets, disks, and blades which gave her a much more varied fighting style. She was also noted for having a much higher stamina reserve than most given she is able to keep up a relentless barrage of high level firebending techniques without tiring. Not only can she keep up a consistent barrage of attacks for prolonged periods of time, but she can also condense her flames in order to “slice” through objects or increase their force in order to obliterate such things as rocks should they get in her way.
As a defence she can manipulate them into a powerful shield of flames to block incoming attacks. Said shield is strong enough to simultaneously hold off attacks from the 4 different elements at the same time with little trouble. She also shows great skill with her firebending using high level techniques in combat and mixing it in with her hand to hand combat in order to overcome such threats as the Kioshi Warriors.
She is also one of the few firebenders in the series who has shown the ability to fly and hover with her firebending, another testament to her skill.
In terms of power and skill, only Iroh and Ozai exceeded her in firebending.
She is one of the few firebenders who have shown the skill to generate lightning. One of the most deadly forms of bending there is, and likely only beaten out by blood bending.
Her skill and precision with lightning is exceptional, she very rarely missed her target and was able to summon and utilize it and high speed, even inside combat. She also displayed the ability to use it on a much smaller scale and summon only small flickers of lightning as opposed to large bolts.
All in all, she is one of the most skilled Lightning benders in the series to date.
She was shown to be incredibly agile and dexterious while in combat or chasing after an enemy. She is able to utilize her skills to deflect punches in combat or dodge attacks from close range. Her incredible dexterity and agility also helped in getting around rough terrain.
Her most fearsome trait besides her Firebending, was her intelligence. She was shown to be very intelligent, able to manipulate people with ease and formulate plans of attack and defence in a very short time frame. She managed to create an elaborate plan in order to bring her brother down and gain power for herself. She always remained one step ahead of her enemies, and was able to mastermind a coup in Ba Sing Se with the help of Ty Lee and Mai, turning the Dai Li against the King and taking the city down from the inside.
Towards the end her intelligence began to slip from her and her mental state began to break down. It culminated in her becoming insane by the end of the war because of earlier events playing on her mental stability.
