 Seriously?
 Seriously?
Look, I know that cheap, mediocre-looking figures will always come out, but what ever happened to those figures featuring cheap, mediocre prices? This latest Asuka figure by Amie-Grand was originally a garage kit, now released as a PVC figure and running ¥14,800-- about $163 USD.
Now, it is kind of cool that her skirt portion is magnetic, and can be swapped out for something a little sexier and all, and I will also complement them that from the side and rear views, her hair looks very nice. But beyond that? The paint looks completely blah.
The only thing that looks expensive on her, actually, is the base...

There was a brief, brief time where OtaCute accidentally had the figure online at a price of $14.50 USD, as a user pointed me to. If you caught that, good job-- because the price is now up to what it was probably intended to be, $145.90. Yeesh.

If you wanted this figure, how much would you actually be willing to pay for it? I kinda wish I'd jumped on that $14.50 deal, myself, but as it is I think I'm more likely to jump on the much more atypical Shinji and Kaworu figure pair.

She just looks rather tall and lanky for Asuka. The outfit looks to be based on a classic Asuka picture.

put bells on those ribbons and this one looks more like Negima's Asuna.

Shortly, fail. But it seems her undies are knitted, and that generally hightens the price of figures for no obvious reason...

Man, what  horrible face.  I'm not a figure collector, but I wouldn't even pay $14.50 for that.

What's with all of these horribly overpriced, mediocre figures lately? There are so many fantastic figures in the $100-200 price range; why anyone would even think to pay so much for something like this is beyond me.

@Thage: Really? They look like plastic to me.

@Noodles: I have no idea! It's very, very odd. I don't know what it is-- maybe just a terrible prototype (seems unlikely), or perhaps Japan is just continuing to exploit the obsessiveness of collectors (more likely). They'd never get away with it if their market was us =p

@Sharp: I would, but then I'd do horrible things to the figure. Like, I'd end every review with her getting thrown out a window, burned, blended, etc. It'd be awesome.

That's way to much money in my book.

The garter belt & panties are hot, & I'm a huge Asuka fan with tons of figures of her, but no way I'll be picking this up.

Because the price is retarded, right? I mean, by the time you throw in shipping, you could practically buy a Wii.

@gia: Pretty much.  I probably wouldn't even pick up a really good Asuka figure for $150 (most expensive one I bought was her in Yoko's outfit, little over $100).  But this one doesn't even particularly look good!

That figure is awful, looks like it was made from materials you can find at a Family Dollar, and the person who can up with the price should be ashamed of themselves.
